Hey there!  Today we're using glue on our stamps.  A word of warning (because I made this mistake): Don't use rubber cement on the stamps!  It won't come off your stamps.  I tried a bunch of glues I had on hand and settled on Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue.  Note that there are glues specifically made for transferring, like Martha Stewart's Transfer Adhesive.  I haven't tried it, but the reviews I read online are decent.

I used some new Balzer Designs stamps in the tutorial.  Have I mentioned yet that I released six cling rubber stamp sets at CHA (the Craft and Hobby Association show)?  Well, I did!!!!!  And I'll share a lot more about them as soon as they're widely available.  In the meantime, you can buy them directly from Impression Obsession (links to the two sets I used in the video are below).

Here's the technique mixing stamps and glue:

Please note: The transfer foil I used is from a company that no longer seems to be doing business.  I have provided some alternative suggestions in the supply list above.  Also the Purple Cows laminator that I used no longer seems to be manufactured.  In the supply list above I've provided a link to an alternative hot laminator.

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Love this idea. When using the iron, I think if you put a piece of parchment paper over the glue, you could place the iron down flat unto the paper and then you might get a neater transfer. I’m going to add some foil transfer paper to my stash and give this a try. A fun idea for cards or to add a little bling to a journal page. Love your mini stamps – do you think this would work with hand carved stamps also?

  • Hi! This is so beautiful! You can use sticky embossing powder to transfer the foil too…I tried this once. I think it is easier to work with embossing ink on the stamps and then make a heat embossing with sticky powder. Did you try this technique?
Thank you so much for your ideas!

  • WONDERFUL new stamps, Julie! Thanks for sharing the technique and the terrific video. I like the laminated look the best and it’s great to know that laminators are relatively inexpensive. Added it to my wish list. 🙂 Question – can you use the foil you use for nails for this and the rubber cement transfer techniques?

  • Does any glue work or does it have to be a glue that stays tacky? Does the heat application make any glue work? I love your foiling tutorials, thanx for sharing.
