Here is the second of my Polke-inspired canvases:

Balzer-Blender-wm
Again, this is a canvas that tells a personal story.

Edgedetail-wm
I stretched the canvas myself and used an old paint rag instead of a piece of canvas.  The white rectangle was added after the paint rag was stretched.

This is another custom Thermofax screen I created.  The texture of the paint rag (blobs of dried paint, etc.) gave the print a slightly distressed look.

I'm not sure that this is pretty art, or even attractive art, but I do think it's interesting.  For years I've been saying that I'm working on creating interesting faces rather than pretty ones.  This is an interesting painting rather than a pretty one.  It speaks to me.

What do you think?  Does it speak to you?

Thanks for stopping by!

  • The phrase is interested and I especially like the look of the paint rag. Feels like it’s been around in the blender and is looking for a new life. Kinda speaks to me.

  • Interesting … the white rectangular space is something that I personally haven’t seen. Guess I’ll have to get to more museums! You’re also brave for stretching your own canvases!

  • My favorite part is the stencil you created, ” Get out of the blender.” The background surly shows the effects of a blender.

  • Three things speak to me. First, the quote “get out of the Blender”, it is really powerful when you think about both life and art making. Second the canvas you used it is truly unconventional and it works and third, the idea you do not want to make pretty faces but interesting faces. I love this very much

  • So many things about this post “speak to me”. Introducing me to an artist I haven’t heard of, incorporating an old paint rag into your art and the “get out of the blender quote. Brava!

  • Yes! I love this! The old paint rag “frame” is wonderful! And the white rectangle makes a bold statement. They make a perfect base for your powerful blender/statement. Thank you for being inspirational in so many ways!

  • Yes, I do think that this is an interesting canvas – makes one look at it for a long time, think and ask questions. I do wonder, however, why the rectangle has to be stark white – to an ignorant person like me that part looks unfinished, disturbing. Any comment from your side, Julie?

  • I like it, and I love Polke, I actually think a lot of his art is quite beautiful. This is a nice way to relate to that work, I can see where it links up but I can see a lot of your own personality in it too!
