ArtJournalEveryDayLogo-150If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

Today I want to share some daily pages from September.  I really don't know what I would do without my art journal.  It's the place where I dump my feelings — good and bad — explore my cockamamie creative ideas, try out new art supplies, and get out my artistic energy.  If I don't art journal for a few days, I can feel it.  I get jumpy and cranky.  All work and no play makes Julie a very sad girl.  ;)

My favorite white pen is the water-based Sharpie, and I always use Zing white embossing powder when I want white stamping (as in the number 8 above).

I wanted to create a fashion-y girl with an afro and ended up creating a kind of chic Amish girl in a bonnet.  Oops!

The hand stamp and the ticket stamp were stamped onto white cardstock and then cut out using the "Direct Cut" function on my ScanNCut.

The script writing is actually a portion of a large cut I made using my ScanNCut.  This is the scrapbook page that I designed the original cut for:

NewYork-wmThe text is song lyrics from a Simon & Garfunkel song that I love.

  • Funny that I thought Amish as well while looking at the woman.
I can relate to the cranky if you don’t get to work in your art journal.

  • Love how your painting style is evolving Julie, and how awesome that you add in so much writing every week. I like all your “cockamamie creative ideas” (new word for me!), thanks for sharing!

  • I have been watching your face painting evolve over the last few years & it is amazing the work you are producing now. Those 2 faces have depth, character and emotion. Just goes to show practice really does make perfect. Almost makes me want to start painting faces-almost…

  • Thanks again for the weekly dose of creativity and inspiration!! I always look real quickly at home before work, then take longer to look at each picture when I’m on a break at work. It’s fun to look more than once as I find more details and bits I didn’t notice before in each. I’ve been envious of your awesome faces for awhile and decided to challenge myself to draw a face each day for 100 days and see where I end up! Your encouragement to just play and have fun is part of why I decided to do just that with the faces!

  • I find that cockamamie is a highly underutilized word – Kudos to you for using it!! I have plenty of cockamamie art journal ideas as well but never express them as well as you do. . .

  • Julie, you never cease to amaze and inspire me! Your “Amish girl” looks quite a bit like Harriet Tubman!
