I'm still getting used to working in my Gelli Printed sketch book. It's a different way of thinking about drawing and it's challenging me. A lot. But they say practice makes perfect. I don't think I'll ever reach perfect, but I'll be happy if practice leads to better. Riding the A train home, I practiced on some unsuspecting folks.
I used three pens: Pitt Pen – brush nib, Big Brush Pen, White Sharpie.
I'm going to continue practicing until I get better! What are you currently practicing?
Thanks for stopping by!

I love your drawing!!!!. Did you start with a black page and then draw the figures with color? Your drawings are so beautiful, expressive, and capture the pathos of the individuals. It feels like a modern day Degas Absinthe. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Totally cool! Love the black and white layered sketchiness of the lines. I have been practicing abstract doodling, making lines and patterns beyond my usual bag of go-to motifs.

At the risk of sounding “dumb”, did you start out by gelli printing on a black substrate and then filling the gelli-printed background with your drawings? And, if so, how did you gelli print the background in order to leave blank areas? Usually, when I use my gelli, I apply paint to the entire page. Did you just do certain areas of your page? Sorry to be so inquisitive, but I’d really like to try this technique. Thanks Julie!

Did you see the NY Times Ethicist column of July 27th where someone asked if it was ethical to draw someone without their permission? Short answer…it is not unethical. Look up the longer answer…it was interesting.

Wow, a real beautiful journal page, Julie. I just stumbled over it today. What stuck me too is the title of your post: would make a great Springsteen song π
