As you know, I was at HSN (Home Shopping Network) last week.  Here are a few peeks behind-the-scenes:

Myriah-wm

This is Myriah.  She's awesome.  She makes everything ScanNCut related happen and she takes very good care of me on the road.  I was disastrously sick on this trip, so I felt super lucky to have her.  (In the photo she's prepping stuff for our segments.)

Here's a closer look at the table:

LeftSide-wm

Lots of fabric projects.  My friend Kacia made the quilt.

You can see several different projects all made from the same basic doodles, and of course, I love cutting out titles using my own handwriting!

As I said, I was super duper sick, but I think I faked it pretty well.

Right before I went on, I gulped down hot water that had throat lozenges dissolved in it.  I also had several "emergency cough drops" placed around the table in case of a coughing fit.

One of the things that I'm most proud of is this card:

Card-wm

We needed a quick project to show off the "Direct Cut" function of the machine and so in about 10 minutes, I put this card together backstage.  It started as a piece of patterned paper — black with white stars.  The ScanNCut detected the stars, cut them out, and left me with a very cool piece of paper.  I adhered the cut out paper (which would also make a great stencil) to a blank card with foam adhesive — so that you'd really see those cut outs.  I used one of the cut out stars as an embellishment (more foam adhesive) and I drew the word "Superstar" and let the ScanNCut cut around it so that I could adhere it to the card front.  That built-in scanner really does open up the possibilities of what you can do!

And here I am (with a very good camera angle) showing off my fabulous creation:

I hope you enjoyed this backstage peek at my HSN experience!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • It must be very difficult to “be on” when you’re sick.
Glad that you made it through. I looked for you but the hours were different than you had listed (or I was confused) and missed it. Another time, as I’m sure that you will be back. I don’t have any die cut machines but that is too cool that it can detect the stars and cut out your handwriting!

  • I missed the 5am (pst) airing but caught the second one. You looked fabulous and your presentation was spot on. I sure couldn’t tell you were ailing. Poor Holly Fossen had a terrible time with coughing on one of her segments. Live TV has to be intimidating. No retakes or editing, but you always do great. I love the card and that machine is amazing. I also love to use my scanned handwriting. It’s so much more personal and really adds to a page or card.

  • My husband gave me a ScanNCut for my birthday in December. I must admit that I was a bit intimidated. A google search brought me to a video from your blog. You gave amazing instructions on how to make a shadow box. It was my first project and I have used it continuously since then. I have a few gelli plates and now I make all my stencils for it. It’s opened up all kinds of possibilities for mixed media and it directed me to your blog, where I stop by every day for additional inspiration. Thanks, Julie.
By the way, those false eyelashes? You really rock them!!!

  • Julie. When I saw HSN was doing a full day of crafts, my daughter and I made a day of it. (She works from home). We watched the entire day. You did a great job (very much better than some of the others) and we never would’ve suspected you were sick. Hope you’re well again. Love all your videos, blogs, etc. been following you for years, back to the first scrap booking program with all those gals doing different things. Keep up the fantastic journey and yes, you do look fabulous.

  • I though you did a great job. My DH also gave me the Scan-n-cut for my birthday in May. I haven’t had as much time to play with it as I would like, but love it. I have to say that your demo’s were influential on my wanting it. I pay so much attention to what you show and learn something new each time. The Quick Card you made showed so many uses in the one project. I hope we see you again in the future and you show more!
