I'd like to introduce you to Nick.
Nick is an awesome member of the Mixed Media Workshop crew. See that whiteboard he's holding? Here's a close-up:
In order to synch up all the cameras in editing, Nick is supposed to write the episode (212) and then the segment (1) number on the white board and hold it up for each of the cameras. Very early on in the filming process, he started adding doodle drawings with captions.
They are wonderful, whimsical, ephemeral art and I wanted to share a few of them with you today.
I love that Nick just decided to start drawing. Art/doodling — whatever you want to call it — is an easily accessible way to express ourselves, pass the time, and entertain and delight. I never want to forget that. And look how expressive the drawing above is. Nick wasn't worrying about proportions or getting everything "right." Same with the cow below. I get that it's a cow. I don't need it to be perfect. Sometimes I think we're too hard on ourselves. Creating art should be joyful!
In some ways, this art is memory related. The board above says, "I can go 11 minutes all day." That's actually something I said right before recording this segment. (It was in relation to this segment being a bit longer than other ones and the director wondering if I'd be okay at 11 minutes.) But, I wouldn't have remembered it, if Nick hadn't captured the words. Isn't that what we do when we scrapbook or art journal or work on Project Life? We catch a moment, a memory, an experience in a visual form with added words.
So, thank you, Nick, for creating art just because you wanted to and infusing it with humor! And also for reminding me that the power of art is in communication, not in perfection.
Thanks for stopping by!

What a fun post…thanks Nick!

What fun! I think a little doodling interjected into every job would be a good thing!

These are great fun! I love the “just because” of Nick’s doodles. Also, “I’m sad because my head is shaped like toast” may become a family fave once I share it with my teens. 🙂
