ArtJournalEveryDayLogo-150If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

Today I'm sharing some art journal pages from September.  My journals are tending to be journaling heavy these days.  I've got a lot going on and find that getting it all out of my head and on to the page is extremely helpful.  Once it's on the page, it's almost as if I've dealt with the problem.  I love that!

I think you'll recognize those spray boxed words, yes?  I made a mistake when I did the Sprayed Boxed Letters tutorial, and had an extra strip of "Joyfuls" left sitting around.  It's never a wasted effort once you paste it into your journal!

I stamped using a set of hand carved alphabet stamps.  The tag was a leftover and so was the butterfly.  I simply glued them together and then glued them into my journal.  On my desk I have a little bucket for small leftovers like those.  It's my favorite place to go digging when I need "a little something."

The white quote was something I found on Pinterest and printed out in order to glue it into my journal.  The quote is:

"Sometimes we need to stop analyzing the past, stop planning the future, stop figuring out precisely how we feel, stop deciding exactly what we want, and just see what happens."

Pretty smart words.  I tend to be a super planner and I'm trying to let go and go with the flow!

3-Lost&Confused-wm
This is a rare page without any journaling. Well, I suppose there is text, so that's not strictly true.  But, you know what I mean.

I go through lots of phases with  my art and right now I'm in a fancy lettering phase.

More fancy lettering.  It's on almost every page these days!

4-DaisyTags-wm
Lots of leftover tags here.  I like the look of tags, but they also help to strengthen a flimsy or cracking journaling page. Sometimes my pages are made of very thin paper and gluing some tags onto the back of the flimsy paper helps stabilize them.

I like the way the journaling looks dodging around the orange-ish figures on the page.

That's all I've got to share for now.  I'm sure there will be more pages next week.  If you'd like to share, here is this week's linky list:

Thanks for stopping by!

  • There’s something so profound about your work. You said you have a lot going on and it’s easy to sense that. I don’t know if captivating is the right word, but that’s the word that comes to mind. You’ve made emotional depth visible to the eye.

  • Julie,
I enjoy seeing your art journaling pages, so bold and colorful and your fancy lettering is phenomenal. The best thing about art journaling for me is getting stuff out, that I didn’t even realize was (IN) there, so for the most part not a lot of journaling. AND yet the relief and JOY at setting things free is fabulous.
Thanks for sharing your art journal pages. I’ve learned so much from YOU and this form of self-expression you teach.
    Peace,
    Donna

  • Your pages are a feast of glorious color and lettering Julie! I too think it’s good to get it out on journal pages-even if you don’t want it all exposed you can cover it up with paper or paint.

  • I love the direction of your mixed media female figures . The one with little text, I especially love. Beautiful energy and colors. I shy away from figurative drawing. Yet when I see this particular image, it inspires me to try in my my journal where I can gesso over if it does not work out. Thanks so much for sharing. I remember the days when I could not wait to get my Mary Englebrite subscription in the mail. I find myself feeling the same about your email postings…..a good thing 😉
