Last night I carved out some studio time.  I wanted to play in my studio without any limitations or assignments and just have some fun.  This scrapbook page is what emerged.

Together-wm
Monochromatic (mostly) and brown are not my usual style, but that's what happened and I'm delighted with how it turned out!

I used the mini Stacked Triangles stencil with some gold embossing paste to create the background.

The brown-ish embellishments were fun to make.  I doodled the basic shapes and scanned the drawing into the ScanNCut.  After the machine cut them out, I used a watermark ink pad and some Antiquities Embossing Powder to give them the cool textured finish you see.

The title was also cut with the ScanNCut — it's just my handwriting scanned in.  After I cut it out, I painted it gold (to match the background triangles).  Once I had glued it down, I felt like it didn't pop enough so I added a shadow with a blue marker.  I feel like it has a nice pop now!

This layout looks super simple, but I spent a really long time making it.  It actually reminded me a bit of when I first started scrapbooking and needed to make all of my own embellishments and such because I couldn't find them locally and it was the very beginning of the whole internet selling age.  I had a lot of fun taking the time to make everything just what I wanted.

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Awesome! This is exactly the kind of stuff I like to do… Making my own embellishments. It looks fab! And that ScanNCut sounds really easy to use. Is it easier/ more friendly to use than the Silhouette? Do you know?

  • I like the way you made “together” pop. I always hesitate to start outlining things or adding shadowing . You know, when you are almost done a piece and you don’t want to ruin it. But the more I practice it, the braver I get and the better the artwork looks.

  • You do have pretty cool handwriting!
I was wondering: Is it your handwriting that is used on your Project Life printables? I know there are sites that will convert one’s handwriting into a font.
My handwriting is pretty awful. I can’t even read it back!
    Enjoying your posts every day!

  • Julie,
I just saw show #301 and I have always thought you were beautiful. As someone who has always struggled with my own weight, I noticed that you have lost weight and now look so gorgeous! Way to go, girl. I am inspired. I love your “out of the box” approach to art–and life. Congratulations.
