A Visit to the Kunsthalle Museum

While I was in Hamburg, Nathalie and I went on a whirlwind tour of the Kunsthalle Museum.  Our first stop was the Paul Klee "Angels" exhibit.  There were no photos allowed, but we snapped a few when we got to the participatory portion of the exhibit.  There were pencils and paper and you were asked to draw an angel and leave it in a box.  They had many of the drawings other people had done hanging up.  We had to give it a try!

BlindContour-Julie
We started with blind contour drawings.  That's where you draw without looking at the paper or lifting your pencil.  It's one long blind line.

Then we moved on to some artistic interpretation….

I love that we ended up with two very different interpretations of the idea of an angel!

After the Klee exhibit, Nathalie took me to see some of her favorite paintings in the permanent collection of the museum. Here are the ones I loved:

So much color and emotion and story.  Just fabulous!

The museum itself is a lovely building.  Very grand.

MuseumAnd here is my dramatic interpretation of "taking in the art."

Super melodramatic, no?

If you're ever in Hamburg, I highly recommend a visit to the Kunsthalle.  It was wonderful!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • What a grand museum and love all of the art by you, Nathalie, and those other rather secondary artist…..hee hee….
Your pose is so fitting for the environment with just enough drama.
I am going to try to image search the other paintings–especially the Doll Boy–as I do not know who did those. They indeed are compelling and colorful.
