Building A Better Blog: For Artists

I'm delighted to be teaming up with Interweave to offer you a webinar on Building a Better Blog!

CoverShot-sm

A webinar is basically an online seminar.  You don't need any fancy equipment — just access to the internet with a reasonably good connection.

Here's the official description:

A blog is an excellent tool for sharing your artwork,
building a community, growing your business, and strengthening your brand.
However, a poorly done blog can be worse than no blog at all. There is no
one-size-fits-all solution – so much of building a better blog depends on your
goals, your comfort level with public sharing, and the amount of time you are
willing to dedicate to the blog.

In this webinar blogger and artist Julie Fei-Fan Balzer will
guide you through:

  • Determining realistic and achievable goals for
    your blog.
  • The baby steps you can take to work towards
    larger goals.
  • Tips & Tricks for making blogging work for
    your lifestyle and/or your business.
  • Finding an audience for your blog (and keeping
those people coming back for more).

The focus of this webinar is on developing content for your blog.  You will leave with a host of practical ideas
you can put into place immediately.

There will be a live Q&A at the end of the webinar!

Please Note: Everyone who registers for Building a Better Blog for Artists will receive a link to the webinar recording as well as a coupon code for a 15% discount on all of my Interweave products in the Cloth Paper Scissors Shop!

Because you get a link to the recording, there's no need to worry about taking notes or even being able to watch the whole thing.  You can always go back to the recording and pause or fast forward!

If you'd like to register, click here.

I'm giving away one spot in the webinar.  To be entered to win, you simply need to leave an answer to the following question in the comments section of this blog:

What is your biggest stumbling block when it comes to blogging?

I will choose a random winner by Thursday (4/18).  If you purchase the webinar and then win, you will receive a full refund!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • My biggest block is finding unique content on a regular base… it’s difficult to blog 2 times a week, at 2 blogs (with different content) and having 2 jobs at the same time. But I love blogging so I write when I can. Thanks for this opportunity! 🙂

  • Hi Julie, My biggest stumbling block is getting started. I find technology scary & am only now feeling comfortable following blogs after 2 years. I would love my own as there are so many crafty challenges that I would like to participate in & I dream one day of being on a design team. Thanks for the chance to win.

  • My biggest stumbling block is frequency of posting. Some weeks go by and I get busy with my other real life and don’t find time for art or blogging. Other weeks I have a post very couple of days. Settling into a more or less pattern of blogging time is what I need to find a balance with.

When I go ahead and post photos of a project, I always get nice comments. I should post more often!

  • The biggest block is the balance of promoting my art without being pushy about my art. I am turned off from blogs that are all about the sell. Yours…..is perfection. Technique, sharing, inspiration (what inspires you and inspiring others). I want some content. Some blogs have become a few photos and a blurb……come take my class, stop by my shop. I want that interaction as if we met in a brick and mortar gallery. Keep up the great job.

  • For me, there are two stumbling blocks : comparison (being intimidated or thinking that I’m not original or good enough) and time. But I’ve been taking steps to disregard the first block and to work around the second. Yay me! So this webinar would come at the right time. I remember when you went to that seminar that let you down a little (was it female bloggers or something like that?). Well, I’m sure this webinar doesn’t disapoint. Thanks for the chance to win.

  • My biggest issue is just having a dedicated time to blog. I often have content just swirling around in my head, but making time to commit is hard for me.

  • My biggest problem is trying to decide if I should start up a blog. To me it’s like a commitment and something I would have to do even if I had nothing to really share with the world. Who knows…I might have more fun than I realize. But keeping it FUN would be tops on the list.

Sometimes I compose a post in my head when sleep won’t arrive and the next morning life happens.
I would rather make art than type about it, mostly.

  • Time, time, time. Take pics (or scan art pieces), crop and tinker with them in Photoshop, write out what I want to say, proofread, load pics, add captions (or not), add tags/labels, post.
I have all kinds of stuff to post about but it just takes too long to get it all ready to go.
    Thanks for the chance!

I’ve taken other classes which were good, but not enough to motivate me. Thanks for this opportunity, Julie, and thanks for sharing your talents with us!

I could post more often if I had interesting enough material to show. My blog is knitandcrochetpatternchat.blogspot.com I am adding more work than just my knitting and crocheting now and can always start another blog. I have one called artsandcraftsdotcom.blogspot.com Maybe my names are too long.

  • Your timing in offering this webinar could not be better for this weary and loyal follower. I have since the Fall of 2010, been attempting to create a blog using my iPad as my go to piece of technology since i do not own a laptop. As I reached out to the friendly folk in our creative, virtual, tutorial world, I quickly discovered that my much beloved iPad was the stumbling block to my success.
My iPad became my lifeline to the outside world when I was diagnosed with Lupus in March, 2011. The lightweight portability of my iPad has allowed me to use it for all record record keeping including my doctor appointments along with exploring the endless, creative possibilities within a wide variety of apps. Since I am bedridden most of the time, my iPad has been my lifeline to connect to and make wonderful new friends in our supportive and creative community. It is my hope Julie that I will be able to learn how to create a blog hopefully with my iPad from the ground floor from the perspective of your creative and successful expertise!

  • I always really struggle with the words. I never know what to write that will sound interesting enough and engaging. I really wish I was better at that! I would love to be someone who blogs every day, but with this stumbling block, I’m lucky if I manage a post once a week. I’d love to win a spot in your webinar, thanks so much for the chance!
