It has been a while since I've reported in on Project Life. I'm still working on it every week. Today I thought I'd share ten Project Life ideas that work for me.
1. I like every single day to be represented in some way. When I don't have a photo, I use a screenshot.
In the bottom right corner you can see that I included a tweet from my day. Even weeks later, it's easy to go online to your twitter profile and see what you tweeted on a particular day! A great way to fill in empty spaces.
2. I stash interesting bits of mail, programs, tickets, and all that good stuff in page protectors in the middle of that particular week's spread.
I keep postcards, airline tickets, receipts, anything that I think I might want to remember! I always used to collect these things in a shoebox. It's great to have a real "place" to put them!
3. When I don't have a lot to share in a given week, I'll make pretty little quote cards to fill the space.
You can see I used a handwriting style font to create the yellow "19" quote card. When I do a filler card like this, I try to choose something that sums up the way I'm feeling that week. That way, looking back, I get a real sense of my emotional state at that moment.
4. I cut 4×6 photos in half so that they'll fit across two pockets.
In my opinion, the only way this project works is if you make it work for you! You can see that I cut two different 4×6 photos in half because I was using a page protector with lots of little pockets. P.S. I did the writing before I cut the bottom left photo in half.
5. I do a ton of journaling directly on top of my photos.
This way I don't have to think about what size to print my photos. It's always 4×6 or 3×4. No thinking = faster.
6. I include a lot of food photos.
I'm the kind of person who goes on vacation and remembers each day by what we ate. What can I say? I love food. So, I take a lot of photos of the food I eat and seeing the pictures really does bring back memories for me. The whole point of this project is to capture those little moments that make your life yours. A lot of my little moments are food-related!
7. When I'm in a rush, I go hybrid.
Hybrid = combo of digital and paper. Since I'm editing photos anyway, it's easy enough to add in the journaling, date numbers, and so on. Especially when I'm playing catch up. This was a time that I was out of town and when I got back home I had three weeks of Project Life to catch up on! So, I did most (but not all) of it on the computer for the sake of speed.
8. I love using my typewriter to add journaling!
Truth be told, I'm not sure you can tell the difference between the digi journaling and the stuff I do on my typewriter. That said, all of the typewritten text above was done on my typewriter. I like how clean it looks, because like everyone else on earth, I don't love my handwriting. I think we all covet someone else's handwriting, right?
9. Photos go directly from instagram into my Project Life album.
I love the square format and the pretty filters. I also do a lot of photo collages through PicStitch that end up on instagram. Almost every photo that I instagram ends up in my Project Life album.
10. I try to include images of my artwork each and every week.
I try to include photos of the things I make and the things I'm working on. Making art is an enormous part of my life and I like having a little snapshot that shows exactly what I was working on that moment. Looking back, it's fun to see where I was in my artistic journey!
So, there you go! Ten things that make my Project Life work for me.
One of the wonderful things about this project is that there is no wrong or right. There's just what works for you and what doesn't. Do you have a list of ten things that work for you?
Thanks for stopping by!

I think that I would enjoy this and it would mostly take the need for LO on everyday events to be put on hold. Plus I would be less apt to have boxes of ticket stubs and fortunes in my scrap room.

I have been wanting to delve into PL but haven’t because I wasn’t ever really successful at traditional scrap booking. This morning you opened a new door with these ideas! I can totally do this —and enjoy it! Thank you!

Your PL spreads are always such a feast for the eyes. Your 10 things is like a design dissection, and helped me see what it is about your spreads that makes them exceptional. Thank you, Julie! I may jump onto the PL bandwagon yet!

Where do you get your page protectors for PL? Also, what pens do you use to write directly and your photos? Can you you stamp on your photos as well? Will that damage them at all? This post has really made me think!!

So glad to see this today – I find your PL posts very inspiring and I’m about to work on my week 14. I am finding my feet with this project, little by little. I have tried writing directly on photos and sometimes I really like it. I take quite a few food pictures too and love using instagrams. I don’t have space for a picture everyday or for much ephemera because I’m using a smaller 6×8″ album, but I’m OK with that. I’m debating buying a typewriter. I enjoy seeing your pages because your album is uniquely yours and sometimes I need the reminder that my pages should just be whatever I want them to be. And also because your pages are fun and full of life! 🙂 Thanks for sharing them.

Love your style Julie and yours is the handwriting that I covet! I am going to borrow that quote about the adventurous bird. That popped out at me.

Hi, Julie:
I am coming a little late to this! I love your PL and am thinking of trying it myself, with a small Sn@p binder from Simple Stories. I’m not sure I could fill a 12×12 page per week.
I know you said you use a lot of rub-ons. Do you have any brands in particular that you like or would recommend? I really like 7 gypsies. I have gotten some really crappy ones from AC Moore that don’t rub off (or on!) I think October Afternoon has a few nice ones too.
I look forward to your suggestions.
Take care,
Sandra
