My “One Little Word” for 2013

This year I have decided to embrace Ali Edwards' "One Little Word."  It's a simple idea: you choose a word to be a guiding principle for you all year long.  Ali's word for 2013 is "open."  I've decided that mine is "yes," and I carved a stamp to memorialize my choice:

YearofYesStamp
I plan to use it all year long in my art journal and in my Project Life album.  Yes!

Have you chosen a guiding word for 2013?

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer

Her artwork investigates the interplay of identity and perception, inviting viewers to take a longer look. • My word is Confidence. When it comes to using sharp implements, it should be ‘fear”. I’m afraid to carve anything- is there a better, less dangerous way to make stamps? I’m absolutely derious. I cut myself cleaning carrots!

  • My word 2013 word is stretch.
Many of my art pieces so far this year have been a stretching process for me. Part of my stretching involves accepting that some of my pieces don’t turn out as well as I’d like and still being willing to post them on my blog. This is my blog address if you want to see some my work. http://stamplaughplay.blogspot.com/

  • Love your stamp, Julie. The word that keeps showing up in my world is PRACTICE, so i am claiming it for the year. if i want to get better, i must work at it….i.e. PRACTICE! One place the importance of practice showed up was right here on Julie’s blog. I loved the entry showing her art journal from beginning to current and how diligent she has been in practicing everyday. I could really see the growth in her art and was inspired by it. thanks, Julie!

  • Hi Julie…I have never had a OLW before but have decided that ” listen” is my word for 2013…you are the first person I have shared that with. I don’ t just mean talk less but really listen to my clients, my friends, my family but also to listen to myself and trust my intuition and the voice that says …yes you can do that!! I am going to listen to the wind and the birds and the rain on my car’s roof as I wait to go see a client. The hardest listening for me will be that shout in my heart, that is almost always right, saying W…T..F… are you doing ??

I’ve learned to say it only when it’s something worth my time and effort. Anyway, you are making me think about what word I want to use, and I think it is “healthy”. Not sure yet though.

  • Thought a lot about this… the word ‘CREaTE’ is just too much pressure, since I don’t believe I can create anything good… so I’ m. choosing between MOVE. and PLAY… play seems empowering.. it doesn’t have to be good…. move is about something else, so maybe I’ll have two words…

  • I’ve been hearing about this One Little Word around and about the art internet, but didn’t understand what it was. Thanks for the explanation and link. I’ve decided that my word needed to be “Courage”. The courage to try new things, to stand up for what I believe is right, the courage to fail, the list goes on and on.

my word is TRUST. i recently went through a miscarriage a few weeks ago…and although i dont fully understand the reason why God would let me go through this experience…i do know that He has a plan and i should TRUST that His plan is better than mine.
my 2013 bible verse WITH my word :)–“TRUST in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” -Proverbs 3:5-6

  • My word for 2013 is CHANGE because there is going to be a lot of change for me this year: new job, new home, new country. And then there is so much that I want to change for myself: I want to loose weight, I want to change my lifestyle, I want to be more active and creative. That is going to be a lot of changes so this little word seemed appropriate for 2013.
    Love your stamp!
