If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks!
The beginning of the year always feels like a good time to look back, doesn't it? Today I thought I'd share a little bit about my art journal journey.
I started dabbling in art journaling in 2007.
Most of my pages were 6×6 and meant to be put into a 6×6 scrapbook album. They consisted of sketchy little drawings, a bit of stamping, and my handwriting.
Seeking an emotional outlet, I started to become a bit more proactive about art journaling in 2008 and 2009.
I used a lot of magazine collage.
And I also discovered that I loved drawing faces.
Towards the end of 2009, I decide to commit to a diary style art journal and the idea of art journaling every single day. I managed to art journal every day for most of 2010.
And then in January 2011 I decided to go "public" with my little art journaling project. Art Journal Every Day was born!
Part way through the year I switched to a smaller sized album…
Although, in 2012, I tried out a handmade album with pre-painted pages.
Definitely a very good decision! It's one of my very favorite art journals.
I do also maintain a sketch-style art journal…
…and a non-diary style art journal where the pages often don't have any text.
All in all it has been an excellent adventure. I've learned a lot about myself, about making art, about what I like — all thanks to art journaling. I'm grateful for the daily practice. Some day I'll need to write a post about all of the wonderful and amazing things art journaling had done for me. For today I will just say: It's never too late to start. All it takes is ten minutes a day and an open mind!
Here is this week's linky list:
Thanks for stopping by!

I remember that page from 1-11-11 it is one of my favorites!
Your art journal has changed so much as your art has evolved Julie. I look forward to seeing where it goes next.

You’re what got me going on art journaling with your 30-day class and all the great tutes in your blog and site. Now I couldn’t be more hooked, and I’m starting to teach it myself. Thanks for all the inspiration, Julie!

I enjoyed this post so much and am glad I found AJED because it has kept me art journaling on a regular basis-tho not every day. Thank you Julie!

I love your pages. I like that sometimes there are not words too. Sometimes the art tells the story for me.

I would LOVE to see a post on what you have learned from art journaling!
With your influence(as well as Daisy Yellow), I began to dapple in art journaling late last year. My goal for 2013, is to create a page a day(AJED). Thank, Julie!

Thanks to you and your Art Journal Every Day project an entire new world has been opened to me. Some time back I made a goal to link each Friday to your blog so even when things are busy and I don’t particularly feel like drawing/sketching you motivate me to play – this has made such a difference in my abilities and confidence. Can’t wait to enjoy all the things you bring to us in 2013!

Julie I love your early sketchy journals from 2007. It would be nice to see you do some more work like that-even stamps from some of them!

Julie: What a great post! It’s interesting to see the evolution of your journaling.
I have a question about the last picture, the one with what looks like a big rubber stamp of a man with glasses (your hubby?) I’m interested in making rubber stamps from photos. Have you done a tutorial about that, or is it included in your Stamp Carving 101 class? can you give me any advice?
thank you so much!
