If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, all the posts can be found here. Please read this post first. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. Just play! Linky list for December is right here.
As I mentioned in a previous post, memory guru Ali Edwards is once again running her December Daily project. Essentially she encourages people to build a foundation of pages for a mini album and then add in photos, ephemera, and journaling for each of the days leading up to Christmas.
Well, as those of you who art journal every day know, this is pretty much what we do every single day! So I figured I'd share my daily December entries this month and call them my December Daily Art Journal!
(P.S. Is it weird to have a P.S. in the middle of a post? Regardless, I just want to say to all of you who are thinking about Project Life for 2012 that it's a sister idea to Art Journal Every Day. Much as the December Daily and Art Journal Every Day overlap, so do Project Life and Art Journal Every Day. Project Life encourages you to capture all the photos, memorabilia and little snippets from your daily life in page protectors. Art Journal Every Day encourages you to do the same thing, but without the page protectors and photos – though you could use photos. Something to think about as you plan for 2012.)
I'm currently working in my ginormous watercolor moleskine. It's 11.75 x 16.5 inches when closed and when open it's 11.75 x 33 inches. Ginormous.
I completed one full spread for the first seven days of December:
And I've just started a new spread for day eight:
I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops!
Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I recorded an episode of the Paperclipping Roundtable podcast this week. The topic was "the future of scrapbooking." Take a listen and let me know your own thoughts on the topic.
P.P.S. The December Artisan Add-On Kit from Jenni Bowlin contains the Balzer Designs 6×6 Punchinella Stencil!

You definitely got me thinking and you’re right. I wonder if the project you pick is determined by your “go-to” method of memory keeping.
I preserve my memories with scrapbooking so I’ve chosen DD and I’ve just started PL. I love art jounaling but I’m new to it but I’m a dabbler and I often don’t like how things look. I know it’s all a learning process but I’m not ready to display and share these early art journal pages.
But you make a really good point, Julie. Although, I’m not going to art journal exclusively maybe I can be more open to it and add it to my DD & PL as I go forward.

Julie, you had me laughing out loud. There is so much overlap between all the journaling processes. It is the techniques used to get there that separates them, not the daily, weekly or monthly recording of the stories, photos, drawing, etc. I love your journal pages and find myself forwarding your blog posts to other friends more often than any others. I don’t see any problems with mixing and matching techniques either. Nothing has to be exclusive. I like the look of mixed up techniques in one book. I tend to make my pages and then bind them together. Only because one day I use watercolor paper, one day glossy cardstock, one day canvas, etc. Just depends on the technique I am playing with. Thanks so much for continuing to share all your creativity. Wishing you the best holiday season.

I love your December pages and so glad your sharing them with us. Just ordered my PL for the 4th year and I do believe in all kinds of scrapping methods and whatever way makes you happiest. I like having all different ways of recording my story and my families. Wishing you a Merry holiday season!!

Theresa – I do many of mine on loose pages too for the different sizes and things. I haven’t decided how I want to bind them together and I think it’s probably time I start looking at different ideas! How are you binding yours?

I love that it’s called the punchinella stencil, no star or dot stickers here! Just a great stencil to liven up any art project. 😀

I have been wanting to integrate more (multi-media) play into my Project Life project this year (as well as my scrapbooking in general). It has already happened a little bit. So maybe one of these days they will become one. Hmmm… For now, since I am brand new to art journaling (30 Days in My Art Journal was my first attempt except one entry the week I signed up for the class!), they remain two separate things. I feel too new to art journaling to combine them. I am building my confidence in my art by doing an (almost) daily art journal. I’m already feeling a little stuck and stagnant since your class ended, but I just started looking for some new ideas to get my creative juices flowing. That being said, a few days before the end of November, I had already decided to make my Dec Daily this year be my art journal. I have never actually done a Dec Daily since it was way to daunting a project for my personality and habits.
PS I’m in the middle of listening to the Paperclipping episode right now. Interesting so far!

I just got me one of those GINORMOUS Moleskine journals! It really is HUGE. I bought it when I read about it on a blog, and now that I have seen it, I’m not sure how I am going to use it. On the subject of scrapbooking versus art journaling…I used to be a scrapbooker, and then I discovered art journaling. There is certainly a lot of overlap between the two. Personally, my style is a cross.between the two, because I often use photos in my journals. However, in my case, there is no pressure to make my pages pretty, because I may or may not share them with anyone! It gives me more creative freedom, and I have grown so much as an artist! Thank you, Julie for sharing yourself, and your journals. You are a great inspiration to me.
