Lately, I've been obsessed with white-on-white:

And I've also been obsessed with pie charts:

So it seems completely natural that the two things should come together:

InMaine-sm
As you can probably tell from the journaling, this layout is about how Matthew and Teri spent their time in Maine.  I felt the pie charts were rather appropriate.  At first I thought it might be too simple, but then I realized that sometimes things are meant to be graphic and simple.  I almost added a few paint splats, but in the end I decided that it just felt more like Matthew and Teri to leave it clean.

I don't think I'm quite done with either pie charts or white-on-white, but this was a good meeting of the two trends.  I look forward to what's next!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Julie, I have heard you say “anyone can do it”, but I just have no talent for “art”. I am an A type, analytical person, but i love to craft. I just wanted to say that I enjoy your work and I covet your talent —. I am noting all your tips. Maybe one day designs will just come to me. Thanks again. Dee

  • The way your mind works is incredible! I’ve been scrapbooking for about 14 years, and of late I’ve lost interest in it, but your layouts make me want to try again. The pie charts…just so interesting and unique. I love your Matthew & Teri page. Every morning I read your blog posts and it’s an inspiring start to my day. I genuinely admire your creativity and want to say thanks for sharing it here!

  • Glad to know that white-on-white (which I also love) and pie charts (never thought of that!) are current trends. I’m not “out there” so I don’t have a clue. So happy that I find so many wonderful things on your blog that inspire my artistic soul! Your s.b. page is very nice. Love the pie charts and lettering–and of course the pics are lovely. 🙂

  • Something tells me you forget it was white on white!
Check out the Art of Manipulating Fabric by Colette Wolfe. She is an incredible artist from NYC. The book was published in 1996. I saw her work and attended a lecture in Houston (Quilt Fest) around the time it was published and was blown away. i would go blind doing what she did!

  • Pie charts are visually a lot like sun rays. I have become a huge fan of sunrays lately. And then I discovered that rays are a grunge motif…so now I hope to use rays even more…graphic motifs are really fun!

  • Hi Julie –
If that’s the quilt I pinned on Pinterest, the artist is Susan McCord, and believe it or not, it’s from the 19th century. (unless it’s a really good copy) She was one incredible quilter and eons ahead of her time.

  • I love those images of white on white. I always think of myself as liking color more than anything, but whenever I see those natural/neutral shades, I find them so delicious and soothing. Thanks for sharing all those photos and links!
