Stamping Bella: Julie’s Spring Butterflies

Welcome to day six of stamping inspiration and giveaways!

For seven days I will be giving away one of my brand new stamp sets from Canadian stamp manufacturer, Stamping Bella! All of the stamps are specifically aimed at art journaling.  Of course you can use them for lots of different things, but my intention in creating them was for you to use them when you art journal!  If you'd like to win today's featured stamp, leave a comment answering the question of the day (find it at the end of this post).  You must answer the question of the day if you want to win!  On Thursday, May 12,  I will post all seven winners!

And, of course, if you want to buy any of the featured stamps, you can find them all here.

Today's featured stamp set is "Julie's Spring Butterflies."

Butterflieswlogo
Three hand drawn butterflies.  With so many butterflies on the market, how are these babies unique?  Well, I wanted to make them colorable — meaning strong lines that allow you to color them in — and customizable.

Markers:

B-Markers

Glaze Pens:

B-Glaze
Watercolor:

B-watercolor
You can also embellish them with extra doodles and really make them your own:

B-doodled
Because they're hand drawn it's so easy to add your own doodles in a really seamless way!

And here's an idea that I *love* and adore: art journaling tag!

ButterflyTag-sm  ButterflyTagDetail2-sm
You can see that I stamped the butterflies, added watercolor paints, added glitter, and then stamped my journaling prompts (coming tomorrow!) and wrote my journaling.

And now here's a video of me playing with butterflies in my art journal:

Supplies used:

  • Julie's Spring Butterflies from Stamping Bella
  • Koi Watercolors by Sakura
  • Ranger Heat It Craft Tool
  • Golden Fluid Acrylics
  • Archival Ink from Ranger
  • Golden Gesso
  • Adirondack Color Wash
  • CrayPas oil pastels
  • Pitt Big Brush Pens by Faber-Castell
  • Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi Medium
  • miscellaneous: paint brushes, water, baby wipes, book pages

And here's a peek at the journal page:

So what do you think?  Are these butterflies going to flutter on into your stash?

If you'd like to win a set of three butterflies, here's the question of the day:

Who is someone you think does awesomely cool things with stamps?  Leave a link if you can!

Leave your answer in the comments section of this post!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I have a piece of artwork for sale in this reverse auction to benefit the people of Japan:

JapanPromo-2
So much wonderful artwork by some of my very favorite artists like Alisa Burke, Pam Garrison, and Kelly Rae Roberts!  And it all goes to a good cause, so I hope you'll bid!  Click the link to see the artwork and read about it!

  • First I have to say I love butterflies and these stamps will have to become a part of my butterfly collection!!! Love them!
To answer today’s question: I love the Stampscapes stamps that Kevin Nagakawa has designed. http://www.stampscapes.com. You can build countless scenes in your art journal using his wonder stamps. One does not have to be able to draw to produce magnificent pages in your journal. There are so many awesome stampers who have contributed to his gallery. http://www.stampscapes.com/framegal.html
A number of years ago I submitted one also, so if anyone has created some pieces with his stamps, you are encouraged to submit your work!

  • Love the butterfly stamps…I’m going through a bit of a change these days so it’s symbolically like a metamorphosis to use the butterfly motif.

  • Love the butterfly stamps…I’m going through a bit of a change these days so it’s symbolically like a metamorphosis to use the butterfly motif.
As far as the answer to the question: Art journaler Traci Bunkers is all about stamping…and she makes her own stamps with household supplies:

  • Gorgeous butterflies Julie!!
In answer to your question, you really are the first person who comes to mind — honest! Then, some of the other people already mentioned. I think I’d also have to say some of the design team members at PTI. I love to see how differently several people create with the same stamps.

  • Now THAT page, I LIKE. I also like that you used craypas. I was recently wondering if anyone still used those. I remember using them in art class in elementary school back in the 1980s. Very cool!
In answer to the question…I don’t really know anyone who uses stamps. My aunt was into stamping and card making back in the late 80s early 90s. She did it for about 3 yrs and then stopped. I was never into stamping myself, because it’s messy. I recently bought a couple stamps and some ink to try it in my art journal (which is also new to me.) So we’ll see what happens. I made sure to buy stamp cleaners too. Don’t like messy.

Some just use them to generic and have no imagination other than to make them the plain stamps they are. Thank you for sharing your work with us.

  • You and Alisa Burke are my favorite stampers in regards to using them in a funky, fresh, artsy way. As far as straight up stamping, I love Betsy Veldman’s work. It’s gorgeous.
The butterflies are great. I have very few in my stash and think these would be perfect. I especially love how you can doodle in your own details. Awesome.
