I'm wrapping up 2010 with a look back at some favorite art adventures from the year.  Today we'll be looking at my ten favorite scrapbook pages from 2010.  Tomorrow a look back at my ten favorite blog post tutorials from 2010.  Thursday will be a peek back at my ten favorite non-scrapbook projects from the year.  And finally on Friday I will have the first post for my big year-long art project for 2011!  (I hope you'll join me!)

So without any further ado, here are my favorite pages I made during 2010 (some of which I haven't even shown on this blog before!  Are you a careful reader, do you know which ones are never-before-seen?):

Okay, so I cheated.  There are 12 layouts here.  I just couldn't narrow it down to 10.  So, let's just call it my top 12 layouts of 2010!

Here are some observations:

  • There were clear periods of the year during which my mojo was working.  Conversely, there were clear periods during the year when it just wasn't.
  • An enormous number of the layouts use circles.
  • An enormous number of the layouts have paint on them — and even more specifically a hand painted title.
  • An enormous number of the layouts use cardstock as a background (as opposed to patterned paper).
  • An enormous number of the layouts tend to weight to the left.
  • An enormous number of the layouts use my messy cursive handwriting.
  • Not one of the layouts records a birthday.  One records a holiday event, but the journaling is more about the relationship between my brother and his friend.
  • About half of the layouts record a relationship or an emotion, the other half an event.

I don't know that any of this means anything, but definitely some stuff for me to think about going forward.

How about you?  Do you have a top ten (or twelve)?  What are some trends you notice in your own work from this year?

  • You have a great style. I don’t know why, but I am particularly drawn to your Burger Joint layout. Great job in 2010, can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for 2011!

  • I love seeing all your layouts. I don’t remember the “fly” layout, though its so beautiful I can’t imagine you didn’t post it before. I also don’t remember the “first night”layout, but again, very cool. My fav has to be “true”. Very lovely. 🙂

  • I’m with Gina and think that the two she listed haven’t been show here. I must say that FLY is my favorite! I have used more paint on my LO’s this year than ever before (in large part due to your influence and Nat’s).
Circles were big for you that’s for sure. Your hand cut and hand painted titles made such an impression for me. My goal is to do some in 2011. Thanks again for all the time you put into your blog Julie.

  • Hi Julie,
I recently found you…YEA!!! and am going to join your art journal challenge. Love your layouts, as they inspire me to be authentic in my scrapbooking. But i have a question..are these all 12 x 12 layouts and how do you store them. I have mine in pizza boxes because i have not found an album or system I like.

  • Lesley: Im delighted that you found me!  Yay!  They are 12×12 layouts and I store mine in American Crafts D-ring albums.  I like the flexibility of the D-ring and I do mostly 1-page layouts, so the gap doesnt bother me.  Hope that helps!

  • Hi Julie,
what great layouts. I have not scrapbooked enough to see a trend in my pages. That is one of my goals for this year. really love the mama and her babies one. The band night is pretty awesome too. And I am thanking you in advance for a wonderful year to come. Maybe in 2011 I will actually do something with all the inspiration you provide rather than just thinking about it.
