I was given an assignment by Swedish scrapbooking magazine, Scrapbooking m.m., to create a Halloween project.  Without any children, we really don't do much for Halloween around here.  In fact, I don't think I've made a Halloween craft project ever.  At least not in my adult years.  So I thought and thought and finally decided to make some treat bags.  And I am just so very thrilled with how they turned out!  Take a peek:

I made these back in July and there was no candy corn to be found in July, so I filled these bags with jelly beans instead!

BooBag-sm
Despite the lack of any actual Halloween papers, this treat bag has a Halloween feel!  When I saw the American Crafts floral paper, I knew that it could read a little Halloween-y because of the bold black outlines and the spider web-like grid design in the background.

I used a large kraft label as a closure at the top of the bag.  And notice how all five bags have green glitter?  I wanted to use something that would unite them.  It's a small touch, but an important one.

CatBag-sm
I'm totally thrilled with how clearly the cat came out on this bag.  As I was cutting, I was having doubts as to whether or not it would read, but I'm delighted that it does!  The Hambly transparency that creates the window of the bag has a pattern of dress forms, but because they're positioned sideways and the bases are curly, it doesn't distract from the Halloween theme.

OwlBag-sm
I stitched the paper ruffles around the bag while it was flat.  The tag is from 7gypsies.  I dressed it up with a collection of leftovers that were hanging around my desk: some ric rac, a feltie from Sassafras and a little Halloween banner made from a scrap of paper!

Jack-o-LanternBag-sm
This bag just screams Halloween, doesn't it?  Again, I used a label at the top as part of the closure.  I like the way the window allows you to take a peek at the treats inside!

Happy Halloween!

  • Pretty good for a first time Julie. I especially like how the treats show through (and jelly beans are a fave in our house any time of year).

  • I just got my copy of Scrapbooking m.m. this week and loved seeing your work featured in it again! I loved the treat bags, but I especially loved the Fly-layout with the folded flowers.
