Remember that burlap canvas that I painted?  I posted it on Monday when I blogged about what was on my desk.  This is it:

And this is what I did to it:

I added some simple embroidery stitches to create some more visual texture.  I love the way the embroidery transforms such a simple little painting into something really beautiful and special.

I'm heading to a crop tonight with my favorite Manhattan Scrapbookers.  Looking forward to it, but I always have trouble packing.  I can't quite decide what I want to work on.  What's portable?  What do I need to get that done?  And since I print photos as I go, it's so impossible to go without a printer.  But I'm going to enjoy it!  It will be my last crop for a while as I'm about to head into rehearsal for a brand new show!  Time always seems to evaporate when I'm in rehearsal.

Have a stellar weekend!

  • Wow, that looks great!!!
I always have the same problem with packing for crops or workshop. I usually wait till the last moment, then i pack and it has to be that! No more unpacking. It helps!
    Bless you.

  • Canvas embroidery – how awesome that looks! It ads both texture and structure to the piece. Nice!

  • I love the canvas embroidery. Was it hard to sew through the dried paint? You did a great job matching the yarn to the paint. Show stopper.

  • I love this! Do you think I can start with this project if I have never embroidered before?
Julie, I love your blog. I think your style is helping me discover my own style.
Have you ever thought about doing a class at Big Picture Scrapbooking? I’ve taken quite a few classes there and I think you would be fantastic!
