I wanted to share a painting from my art journal:
You can see from the photo that it's kind of huge! It's always fun to work in a large scale and I've been thinking about getting a seriously ginormous canvas and having a go at something really huge.
I took some progress photos as I worked on it. Essentially I created the painting in three steps:
- I painted the image with black acrylic paint over some leftover spray ink splotches from a class demo.
- I experimented with the Copic Airbrush System to color the image in. In the spots where I had gesso underneath, the color is very vibrant and shiny. In the spots where it's just watercolor paper, the color is less intense and has a matte finish.
- I finished the page off by doodling with a white paint pen from Sakura (Pen Touch).

I had a lot of fun with the airbrushing. I'm not very good at it, so there's an exhilarating combination of discovery and fear when I'm spraying!
The page isn't quite done. I want to add some text, but I'm just kind of staring at the page thinking about whether I want to write into the page or whether I want to gesso over some parts of it and then write in. Do I want to destroy it or decorate it? That's the essential question! Hmmmm…I'm going to have to think about it!
