Today’s post is a continuation of my art studio tour.  This is the final installment, part three!

Something you’ve probably noticed by now is that my room is arranged in “stations.” I store my tools and things based on how I use them. When you’re into a lot of different art forms, as I am, it’s a necessary way to organize!

General Art & Papercraft Supplies

Here is the largest set of drawers in the room.

This is what is behind me when I sit at the “play” desk and to my left when I sit at the “work” desk.  You can see the printer and scanner up on top of the drawers.  I also store frequently accessed things like…

Distress Ink pads (labeled with color for ease)…

…and file folders full of paper scraps.  They’re filed by color, of course.

The shelves above are full of books, albums, and all of my non-Prima paper.

Supplies for Quilting, Sewing, and Mixed Media Fiber Work

On the other side of the room is the cutting area.

The top shelf is full of my theatre stuff.  The bottom shelf is all quilting all the time – stabilizers, batting, and even a fun pincushion!

Here is the cutting area:

Cutting mat for cutting fabric on the left and Genesis Trimmer on the right.  Behind the trimmer you can see my rotary cutter, fabric only scissors, and quilt rulers.  Along the far left of the photo is a drawer unit that hold stamps.

And to the left of that is a short drawer unit with a Clip It Up on top. (As a side note, Clip It Up by Simply Renee is no longer made, but you can still find them on ebay sometimes!)

I use my Clip It Up to hold my fat quarters and other small units of fabric.  The top part of the Clip It Up holds fabric related tools like foil, texture plates, and Angelina fibers.

The drawers below it are, unsurprisingly, full of fabric.

Every time I go to the quilt store I tell myself that I don’t need any more fabric.  But I ignore myself.  The funny thing is, I purge my stash of stuff every 3-6 months and give boxes of stuff away.  But I just keep finding new stuff to buy!

Wrap Up

Well, that’s it!  I hope you enjoyed this peek into my “happiest place on earth.”  It’s certainly not a showplace.  No pretty cabinets or beautiful wall displays full of art.  But, it’s fully functional and there’s nowhere I’d rather be than in my studio making a big mess!  As always, let me know if you have any questions.

Here are the other parts of the Art Studio Tour:

  • Wonderful way to end the tour! Now to just be sitting there in the comfy chair watching you create (and maybe sharing some of your yummy scrappy supplies as well). Love the pin cushion…perfect for you and your artsy abilities.

  • Julie,
I love your space. It is very refreshing to see a work room that is NOT all “Real Simple”. It is tiring to see these perfect, minimalist workrooms. Yours looks fun, functional and very much like a room for someone that creates.
    Thanks for sharing.

  • I love your studio. It’s the first studio I’ve seen that I can relate to. I also live in a small apartment (only in downtown Toronto) so space is a constant issue here. I love the functionality of your space. I have a tiny corner of my dining room but I think I can implement some of your ideas to help my space. Thanks for the inspiration (again)!

  • I’ve loved this tour Julie! I use my spare bedroom as a studio, which is in a complete shambles. I also need to organise it so I can story my uni study books in there too. You have given me some great ideas! Thanks!

  • Thank you very much for this tour of your wonderful space. I love your studio and the way you have organized is fantastic! You gave me some very good ideas for my tiny tiny space I use for crafting. The metal rings with the labels is an idea I will use immediately. I will also use the used mailing boxes, of which I have a few. I love your idea of hanging things on a wall and using that vertical space. Thank you.

  • You truly have an incredible amount of counter space for all your tools, cutters, scanners, etc. – the room looks small but WOW – you’ve done a great job of organizing everything. I have a tiny corner in the garage right now so I’m happy. I’m only scrapbooking and card making for now – but journaling and life books are on the horizon. Love N

  • Julie, I am really impressed with your Studio. I have a nice workspace, but really need to organize. I plan to use some of your ideas. I just purchased a Scan N Cut CM650W and have been watching you YouTube video’s. They are Awesome ! I was wondering if you have a video on storing your accessories for the SNC? I got the 12×24 mats and am not sure how to store them.
    Thanks
