I'm interrupting the CHA coverage a bit to share some scrappy projects!

Wow!  What a great kit.  Thanks so much to Tricia and all the girls at Cocoa Daisy!  I had a ton of fun guest designing with the February kit.  Take a peek at what I did:

2009intravel-sm
I think this may be one of my all time favorite layouts ever.  It's super simple, but it is just awesome (if I do say so myself)!  I created a masking tape circle and then painted some gesso over it.  I then took one photo from each trip I took in 2009 and put them in a big circle.  The center is masking tape (I'm currently obsessed with it) and Pink Paislee stickers with some nib pen action as well.

2009intravelDetail-sm
My bravest moment was when I shrugged my shoulders and just decided to go ahead and cut the layout into a circle.  I grabbed my scissors and just hacked away.  So liberating!

Iamahappygirl-sm
This is a crazy busy layout, but I think the yellow paint really demands your attention.  Plus the busy-ness helps to communicate the sense of happy, don't you think?  My favorite part of the layout is the cutaway edges.

IamahappygirlDetail2-sm
To insert and blend the off-white paper into the busy floral, I used an exacto knife to cut some of the flowers and other decorative elements at the edge.  Then I glued them to the off-white paper using foam adhesive.  I love how they help to meld everything together.

IamahappygirlDetail1-sm
In case you haven't noticed, I am a little bit obsessed with butterflies.  These babies were made with a Martha Stewart punch.  I'm loving the detail!

HappyGirlDetail1-sm
I hand cut the flowers from some patterned paper and added the blue rhinestones.  I like the way they turned out.

Ibelieveinromance-sm
This layout almost looks like a pillow, eh?  It's the ruffly edge.

IBelieveInRomanceDetail1-sm
I'm pleasantly surprised by how beautifully the paper turned the corners.  I wasn't sure it was going to work out.

IBelieveInRomanceDetail2-sm
As soon as I saw the twisted fabric flowers on this layout by Elizabeth Kartchner, I knew that I had to try my hand at making them.  She didn't explain how she made hers, so I just kind of guessed.  Mine look a bit stiffer than hers, but I still love them.  They're made from Prima canvas and then sprayed with Adirondack Color Wash and glittered with Distress Stickles.

I must be very in love with my husband these days because I just kept making layouts about how much I love him….

Iloveyou-sm
I'm kind of in love with the alphabet background.

IloveyouDetail-sm
Essentially, I took a ton of stickers and created a sort of patterned paper right below the photo.  I love how bold and graphic it is.  And they kind of stop looking like letters (partially because of the fun font).

IloveyouDetail2-sm

Another butterfly.  This time on top of a dictionary page heart that has been sprayed and glittered.  I do love being a girly girl sometimes!

You&Me-sm
The ribbon along the right side is very floaty and curly.  The scanner kind of flattened it out and I hated the photograph that I took of the layout, so you'll have to use your imagination.

You&MeDetail1-sm
Similar idea to the alphabet stickers here. I used a sheet of rub-ons to create a distinct area of pattern.

YouAndMeDetail-sm
Lately I can't stop layering and layering and layering.  Lots of paper and stitching and a touch of stamping to boot!

This next detail is my favorite "invention" of 2010 (it is only February, so I can make proclamations like that):

You&MeDetail2-sm
Using the free-motion foot on my sewing machine, I stitched a flower.  I cut the shape out and then used watercolors to tint it.  I love the result and will definitely be doing more of it very soon.  And, as a fun bonus, I made an extra one (originally I had planned for two flowers, see both below)…

Twoflowers
…that I'd like to give away.  Just leave me a comment letting me know what crafty techniques you'd like to learn about and I'll choose a random winner to mail the remaining flower to.  I'll pick the winner on February 3 at 11:59pm EST.

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Oh a chance to win one of your creations? Awesome! I want to hear more about the free motion sewing personally. I have a sewing machine staring at me that I have had since last year. Used once.

  • Oh my my my my! So much inspiration in here! Just what I needed…I’ve been going through a creative rut but after seeing these layouts, wow…I’m so inspired! I wanna make something for valentine’s!
As far as techniques, I’d love to learn a bit about your process. Are there days where you just paint and others you just sew, etc to create embellishments and backgrounds? Or do you create the embellishments and backgrounds specifically for each project? Thanks so much for sharing!

  • I love all your layouts and I’m particularly glad that you were brave and cut out that circle – Yay for freedom!
I’ve had the idea of a free motion sewing foot wandering around my head for some time now – maybe I’ll buy me one for my birthday.
I love what you did with it.

  • Just love everything you do! The color, the texture, the unique ways you use products.
I would like to know how you sew on 12″ X 12″ cardstock in all different directions without having to curl up the paper. I have a problem with there being only 5 1/2 inches on the bed of my sewing machine from the needle to the right ‘wall’. This is a standard Singer. Do you just stitch on pieces and then glue them down?

  • I am so in love with this post! Yes, the yellow paint demands my eye’s attention. Wow, you are so brave to cut the LO in a circle. How nice to be feeling the love for your hubby (maybe the 10 days away made the heart grow fonder?). And, as your biggest fan I should win the flower since I just used the piece of painted canvas that I got as part of your huge give-a-way a while ago;-) Thanks for the rub-ons as background idea as I’m off to try it. I can’t think of one thing in particular that I want to see since I enjoy them all!

  • I’d definitely like to learn some sewing techniques. Though I know how to sew (but very rarely do!)and have a good machine, I have been reluctant, nervous, etc. about using stitching on layouts, cards, etc. I’m not sure why I’ve been so resistant because I love Prima’s stitched papers and all the beautiful flowers. Maybe I’m just afraid I’d make a mess!
