Prima's Build-a-Page (BAP) sketch for January is meant for ten photos!  Check it out:

I decided to cram in an extra two and make it a year-in-review style page:

2009-sm
The thing about a year-in-review page is always the question of what are  you reviewing?  Holidays, hairdos, things  you made, relationships, travels, things you bought, work, play, sporting events, family…?!  The list just goes on and on.  In the end I tried to stay away from holidays and focus on some of the events (like moving) that dominated the year, but fit nicely into each month.

Here are some details on how the page came together:

I cropped my photos in Photoshop and added the text over them.  I was able to fit all twelve photos (because they're 2×2) onto two 4×6 prints.

This page is entirely made up of scraps.  I had two large scraps that I taped together to create a 12×12 sheet of paper and then I glued this little scallop border (another scrap) over the seam.

As you can see from the two flower photos above, I colored all the flowers with some copper paint and yellow and orange spray ink.  I like to add a bit of color on the flowers to help unify them.  And how about those swirls of pearls and rhinestones?  I like the mixture of colors and textures and opacity.  It allowed me to put two totally different swirls on the page and yet they seem to match.

I covered the tags with patterned paper.  Then I cut off the little tag hole thing from two other tags and glued them on top of the covered tags.  A layer of copper paint around the edges and some gesso across the center and I was ready to add my journaling!  But it was too white, so I sprayed some yellow and orange mist across the journaling (this is why I always use a waterproof black pen) to add some color back in.  I tied the bow between the tags after they were glued down.

And remember, you can play along too!   The deadline for entries is January 25th, 2010. Designs must be Prima based in order to be showcased in the Prima gallery.

Finally, I created a video tutorial that takes you step-by-step through the process of making this layout…

…including the awesomely cool custom cut mask (used for the hearts) and the hand cut title.  It's artsy made easy!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I really like how you add sparkle and color to your flowers. And the hand-cut titles are the best!
