Label Tulip: July 2009 (aka: where’s the paint?)

FABULOUS kit from Label Tulip this month.  It's all travel themed and just so adorable!

I had a GREAT time playing with it.  (Can you tell that I really *loved* this kit?)

But…

But…

But…something weird happened.

I barely used any paint.  Hmmmm…weird…

SpaceNeedle-sm

Very different, right?  It's mostly October Afternoon die cuts.

SpaceNeedleDetail-sm

Lots of layering and a tiny bit of pen work, but I pretty much left everything alone and didn't use paint or ink to alter it.

There's a bit of paint on this one:

FrequentFlyer-sm

I used this lace paper…

…as a mask and sprayed several colors of ink on the cardstock.

The blue arrows and words (close up, below) were cut from the lace paper after I used it as a mask.  To adhere them to the layout, I used staples.

And now, *gasp* it's a two-pager!

TryingOnGlasses-sm

The paper for the ruffle and underneath the title and  journaling
was created by stamping on a piece of white cardstock with orange ink
and an AMAZING Label Tulip stamp.  I embellished the flowers a bit more
with rhinestones (dyed with Alcohol Ink) and pens (mostly to change the
color of the buttons from red to orange.  The journaling square was
created by (1) masking the space when I stamped the background paper;
(2) painting around the edge; (3) using a credit card to paint the lines.

This layout was wholly unexpected:

Home-sm

It's very collage-y feeling.  I created four quadrants (divided slightly differently) to make up the layout. Also, I wanted to capture the colorful, chaotic, and grungy feeling of summer in the city.  So, I used layers and patterns and texture!

HomeDetail-sm

I created this next layout for the monthly challenge.  The prompt this month was: "Scrap the most exciting thing that has ever
happened to you (or the most exciting thing you've ever done). For
instance: scrap about meeting a celebrity, a trip you've taken, your
sky-diving adventure, etc."

This was a hard one for me.  So, I decided to scrap a long ago very exciting day.  Maybe not the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me, but I was very happy that day.

I don't think you can see the picture really well, but it's a photo of a poster (I'm the second from the left) for a TV show I did with Sinbad when I was a kid.  The journaling is about the day I was cast in the show.

TelevisionStar-sm

I cut a star out of patterned paper and then used it as a mask for the spray ink.  I then stamped inside the masked area.  I used some water and an water soluble crayon to blend the spray ink along the outer edge of the star.  Then, I cut the mask down, flipped it over, and stitched it in place.

So, there you have it!  A bit of a different look overall.

What do you think?

  • I love them all. I think it’s great that all of the pages look different. I would hate getting stuck into one “look”, it would get boring I think, not only boring to create but also boring to look at. Variety is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.

  • I especially like the trying on glasses and frequent flyer layouts. Thanks for the journalling lines technique – i am always trying to figure out how to do lines….there dont seem to be big enough stamps available. And using the lace paper as a mask on that layout is so effective.
