I'm in the midst of teaching a "Scrapbooking 101 Series" at Portrait Bug.  Every other Thursday, I'm tackling one part of this four-part series: Scrapbooking 101, Painting 101, Stamping 101, and Journaling 101.  (Even though it's a series, you can take just one class.  There's a discount for taking the entire series, though.)

Here's a blurry iphone photo from the first class: Scrapbooking 101.

Scrapbooking101

We covered the basics: what is scrapbooking?, supplies, tools, and the steps involved in putting together a layout.  I really like Portrait Bug's classroom.  It's bright.  It's colorful.  And the best part for me is that they have a big TV at the front.  So, I am now teaching many of my classes using powerpoint.  This makes it easy for everyone in the classroom to be able to see the details of what I'm doing without having to get up at all!  And another nice thing for these beginners is that Portrait Bug provides all the supplies (even adhesive!) so they don't need to do anything but show up!

This is the very basic layout that everyone made some variation of:

Anna&Ronen-sm

The layout covers essential design principles along with some important basic techniques like using a paper trimmer, hand cutting, and inlining.

Today, I'm off to teach the next part of the series: Painting 101.  Here's the layout we'll be making:

Don'tLookBack-sm

Each tag covers a different technique (six total) and there are six different types of paints being used here as well!  I'm really excited about the class.  It's going to be lots of fun!  (Though, as you can imagine, it was super tough for me to limit the class to just six techniques!)

Thanks for stopping by!

PS: You can see a photo of me on the Quilting Arts Blog here along with all the guests from the first day of filming Quilting Arts TV.  They spelled my name wrong, but beggars can't be choosers, eh?

  • You sound like a great teacher….I wish my space here at the store was as big and colorful, just a small area in the back. I do like your class description….good choices for a beginner class.
