It is Tuesday, and I have a lot of stuff to share!
1. A few weeks ago, I signed a contract with SIStv to sell my digital kits through their digital boutique. Sadly, before the kits ever hit the market, SIS made the decision to close their digital boutique. However, Portrait Bug has decided to jump into the digital marketplace and will be selling my kits online! Yay! (I'll make a big announcement when they're ready for sale.)
Which leads me to…
2. Portrait Bug has a sort of teaser website up right now that they're calling a preview. But, more importantly, they're doing seven days of giveaways on the blog!
"To celebrate our preview site launch and the coming grand launch, we
are now starting our very first 7 days of giveaways event! Starting Tuesday we will post that day’s prize and you all will have 24 hours to
post a comment to be entered into a random drawing for it! Easy right? You can enter to win every single day!
We will also be giving away a GRAND PRIZE !!
To enter to win our grand prize all you have to do is subscribe to
our blog. At the end of our 7 days of giveaways event we will randomly
choose one of our subscribers to win the grand prize!"
I've seen the inventory! You definitely want to leave some comments!
3. I thought I'd mention an e-mail I got the other day. There's a new site called FotoBookReview.com which compares all of the photo book sites out there. There's a cool little feature that lets you search by the type of book you want. So, if you'd like to do some comparison shopping, check it out!
4. I had a ton of fun teaching my "Ribbon Cuff" class on Saturday at The City Quilter. I had a lovely group of very creative women and they just blew me away with their terrific creations! Here's a sampling of my class and what they created:
In October, I'll be teaching a Portrait Quilt class…
…based on my own little invented technique. However, I've been told that it's already sold out with a wait list of NINETEEN! So, I'm hoping that the store will have the space for me to offer at least one more session.
5. After seeing how inspired I was by my visit to MoMA, my wonderful mother bought me a membership! So, I dropped by today and discovered two very fun things:
(1) There was a photography exhibit. In the exhibit was a wall of tightly clumped, random frames. I got closer and realized that they were a collection of old snapshots, like the kind you might have on the walls of your own home. When I read the display card, I was blown away. It was a collection of random photos by unknown photographers, all dating 1900-1970, in which the photographer's shadow appears. It sounds dumb, but it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. For the most part, the shadows were very sharp and you could see the outline of a fedora, or even the camera in some cases. I noticed that some of the shadows had their arms at waist height. It took me a moment to realize that that meant they were shooting with those old box cameras you held down at your waist! How cool. I really loved it as a collection.
(2) The MoMA gift shop sells a few things that Portrait Bug is also carrying! Good taste all around!
6. I wanted to share a super simple project that I put together in on Friday night.
It's a needle felted needle case that I made from regular craft felt. I've tried a lot of different systems to keep all the needles I need for a single project in a single place and this one has worked out great so far!
7. Okay, so I've definitely mentioned that I love using my scraps before. Well, check out this birthday card I made from the leftovers on my table:
I generally stink at making cards, but I was thrilled with how this one just came together! Messy stamping and all!
8. Finally, I'll be teaching a follow-up to my "7 Principles • 7 Days" online class called "The Seven Elements
of Design." We'll be exploring color, value, texture, shape, form,
space, and line. The class will be online, with a new lesson each day. The cost will be $15 and run September 22-28.
Sign-ups will begin tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by!
