For proof that you don’t need Photoshop to do cool hybrid stuff on your computer, here’s a quick tutorial I wrote up on creating a circle of text in Microsoft Word:

1.    Make sure that the “Drawing” Toolbar is open.  This can be found under the “View” Menu under “Toolbars”

Drawingtoolbar

2.    Once the menu is open, choose “Word Art.”

Actualtoolbar

3.    The following screen will open.  Choose the text that’s in a slight curve.

Wordartgallery

4.    Input your text, choose your font, and adjust the size.  Then hit okay.

Yourtexthere

5.    Use your mouse to click on the little yellow square and pull it below your text as if you are trying to draw a circle.

  Yellowdot_2

6.    Your text will now be in a smushed circle.

Messycircle

7.    Using the clear square boxes around your text, stretch the smushed circle into a regular one.

Finished_circle

8.    You can change the color by using the “Line Color” and “Fill Color” choices at the bottom of the “Drawing” Toolbar.  Here are four examples:

Have fun creating!  And remember that today (Tuesday 2/12) is the last day to enter to win some fabulous Sultane papers!  I’ll be posting the name of the winner tomorrow!  To win, post a comment on this blog entry at Craft Critique!

Why don’t you tell us how to do that, a tutorial suposes that you tell everything step by step!
For me this tut is useless!

  • Thank you for the circle advise. I am trying to do an art project “Creation”. Using pastel paper and pastel and watercolor pencils the desired effect was achieved.
Just could not figure how to write the scripture in a circle around the drawing.
    Thanks again!

  • Doesn’t work with Word 2000. It will only make half a circle of text.

  • Baxi and Laura – You just aren’t all that bright then; are you?
Seriously, Baxi – I doubt that a more detailed tutorial would help you very much. If you can’t figure this out now, you probably never will.
How hard is it to grab one of the boxes around the WordArt and pull it until your image is more of a circle rather than an oval? You could also go to the formatting menu and type in your exact dimensions. As long as your height and width are equal, the result will be a perfect circle – Not that oval varieties are bad mind you.

  • Excellent! In fact, it’s better than Photoshop. For some reason, Photoshop tears up each of the letters in the text after I convert to a circle. It would be great if WORD would allow me to transfer the graphics/text into Photoshop so it could be saved as a .PSD or at least a .PNG – I’m all ears (eyes) if you have a suggestion. Thanks again.
