For the past month or two, I’ve been having some issues with my work. I haven’t really liked most of what I’ve been scrapping. I’ve been a complete disaster in the quilting area — hating everything that I was making and feeling defeated. I’ve started and stopped a number of jewelry pieces because they just looked terrible! I made ugly Holiday Cards. In short, I’ve been a big mess.

So, I suppose it was a really good thing to get out of town for two weeks. I went to my Mother’s for Christmas and to the beach in Alabama for New Years. I brought some small projects with me, but really didn’t feel motivated to do them. *gasp*

That was really alarming. I’ve been doing something creative every single day for at least a year or two now. Maybe I was a bit burned out? It seems impossible though, because how can you burn out on something that you absolutely love? However, I had started to wonder if I had just lost my creativity.

I came home over the weekend and found my design team box from Serendipity Scrapbooks waiting for me. *ugh* Now, don’t get me wrong, the kits at Serendipity are super cute, but I just was not feeling like I would be able to do anything with it. Nevertheless, I opened it up and started playing. Cosmo Cricket. GlitterMist. Bazzill Bling. Lots to motivate a girl.

And then it happened.

It just started to flow.

I went back to scrapping before I knew design principles and without regard to what might be “publishable.” It was awesome!

I can’t really post what I made until the kit debuts February 1, but I will share one layout from the kit as a kind of “sneak peek.”

I realize it may not be to everyone’s taste, but I like it and that feels good.

  • Welcome back, creativity! Great layout!
To make something to everyones taste means loosing yourself.

  • I am so glad that you “found it” again! For me, I’ve gone through a phase thinking that all my stuff was supposed to look the same, the same style, the same design, to look to be made from the same person and it was so frustrating being stuck in that little box (that I really put myself in to to begin with by letting outside ideas from others in), finally I’ve gone and just been okay with creating whatever it is that I want on any given day and it’s been good (for me). I have many emotions, many moods and I want to be able to embrace them all fully in my creative life as well. Kudos to you Julie! Can’t wait until you can reveal your other projects!

  • I can totally relate to this…I’ve been feeling mojo-less for quite a while and started to get worried that I’d not find it again. But it’s coming back. I love this LO! I like how you did the journaling. And that pink and yellow color mix is so fresh and fun!

  • I think we are often too hard on ourselves. As long as you create from the heart, it shouldn’t matter if it’s publishing material or not.
I love your page and I’m glad that you found your creativity in the mist of the creating process 🙂
