Quilting

Terrible Photo, but it’s done!

At 5:30 am, I finally finished my quilt. Good thing too, since it was turned into the Empire Quilters’ judges at 9:50am this morning. Truthfully, it was supposed to be in at 9am. But, I overslept. I had the great debate with myself at 6am. Should I go to bed and risk oversleeping? Or should I just stay up and deliver it and then go to bed? I figured some sleep was better than none, so I set the alarm for 8:30am. At 9:25am, I awoke with a start! Into my clothes and into a cab, I raced down 7th Avenue. Suddenly we came to a full stop. Ugh. I decided to get out and make a run for it. As I raced down the street, I discovered why traffic had come to a full stop. They were filming the third Bourne whatever movie and had closed the entire street. I silently cursed Matt Damon as I ran down the sidewalk. A young P.A. stopped me and asked me to wait for “a moment” while they filmed something. Normally, I would have. But, I was desperate and growing hysterical. I ran past him and around the corner. Not my usual law-abiding self at all! A few minutes later I huffed and puffed in F.I.T.’s elevator trying to catch my breath. Up to the 8th floor. And, I must be the luckiest girl in the world! There was still a line of ladies turning in their quilts! Hooray! I turned in two, but here’s the one that kept me working until the last moment:

I’ll post a better picture when I get it back from the judges, as well as a photo of the other quilt.

I just finished an article for Craft Critique on the intersection of quilting and scrapbooking. (The article will appear on that blog on Monday, March 12.) I focused on easy ways to bring quilting and fabric into your scrapbook pages. But, this quilt is about the opposite: scrapbooking into my quilting. The title of the quilt is “The Sum Is Greater Than The Parts.” Each of the mini art quilts is a fact about me. (I’ll share some close-ups of individual quilts in the next post.) I used eyelets, tags, stamps, paint, photos…and so much more!

Thanks for looking!
