There’s so much I want to do, and never enough time to do it!

I’m sure that statement is hilarious to some because I don’t have kids yet. I’m sure I’ll look back in a few years and wonder why I didn’t get more done with all the free time I had? I feel that way about college. I remember thinking that there was so much to do and so little time. Looking back, that seems absurd. How hard is it to write a twenty page paper? Seriously? But, right now, I feel pretty busy!

This brings me to my second thought: why do we value “being busy” so much?

Many women have complained that other people look at their scrapbooking and said, “You must have a lot of time on your hands.” Obviously, the implication is that the speaker is super busy while you are doing nothing but this useless hobby! Similarly, I went to a crop last weekend and several women came over to look at my pages. “Wow. This must have taken you forever. I would never have that kind of patience.”

On the other hand, I look at friends of mine who exercise religiously and wonder where they find the time. And, I think that’s the answer. We choose what we must get done at the expense of other things.

I always find the time to take a shower in the morning, even when I get up late and am running behind. My Mother would never leave the house without her makeup. If the choice is between dishes and crafting, I will choose crafting every time. In fact, I often choose it over sleeping and eating. Some very basic needs. And yet, it’s not even a question.

I find the time.

Just had someone make a comment to me yesterday along these lines…I’ve got a little one, so of course she’s priority number one, right up there with my marriage of course. But my choice for “free” time and spending time on something that’s important to me and on something that’s all my own and fills my cup so to speak, it’s scrapping and papercrafting that gets done every time! We all make choices and for each of us, (hopefully), they are good ones that make us happy and a better person in the end.
Yes, I find the time too…so glad that you do as well. You bring beauty and leave much room for thought and wonder in all of the work that you create.
