The Act of Creating Something From Nothing

I put together a quick layout that I wanted to share:

TAXI-sm
I pulled it together from the samples I've made for my online class.  It's a busy, colorful, wonderful layout and I'm thrilled to pieces with it.  (And by the way, notice the horrific typo in the journaling?  I just
went back and fixed it by overtyping and decided to leave it a bit of a
mess.  It adds to the charm of the layout, don't you think?)  All those homemade embellishments and papers remind me of how I used to scrap in the "old days" when I couldn't get my hands on any pretty papers or cool embellishments.  Of course, it's not like I've stopped doing that.  I've had a torrid love affair with creating pages from scratch for a very long time.

This layout…

SpyingOnMyBrother-sm
…was made way back in June 2006.  Paint, ink, and some stamps.

This layout…

OhWhatANight-sm
…was made in September 2007.  Paint, ink, stitch, and stickers.

This layout…

Love=Chocolate+Hot-sm
…was made in December 2007.  Watercolor and Pen.

This layout…

Goofball-sm
…was made in September 2008.  The power of a little paint and some fancy writing with a pen.

This layout…

TheweekinPhotos-sm
…is from March of this year.  Spray ink, acrylic paint, and pen.

It feels so good to start with an empty piece of paper and then drag a paintbrush around to make something lovely appear.  If you'll recall, I wrote a long piece on why I love teaching a month or so ago.  This online class has reaffirmed all my beliefs.  I feel inspired and rejuvenated and reminded why I do this: It's the magical act of creating something from nothing.  Amazes me every single time.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

  • I remember the hot chocolate one. I think that was one of the first layout/things I saw of yours and really made me love your style and take notice. I realized looking through my layouts I have very little that are from barebones like this. Pretty much all my art journal pages are. I think thats why I like doing them more.
