I worked with Kenner Road's main kit, "Skylark," and the add-on, which is called "Garden Party."  Here's what I made!

Mama And Her Babies

MamaAndHerBabies-sm
Yes, I'm obsessed with painting circles these days.  And of course, I'm obsessed with painting in general!  Here's a look at the little flower I painted:

MamaAndHerBabiesDetail2-sm
The base is gesso and then I used watercolor paint on top.  I really like how it turned out, very coloring book-ish.

MamaAndHerBabiesDetail3-sm
There was an incredibly generous serving of die cut border strips in the kit.  I layered a collection of them.  They're self-adhesive too, which makes things easy.  My only complaint: you have to punch out all the die cut parts and that does take a while!

I love, love, loved the "Handmade" collection by K&Co. at CHA.  So I was thrilled and delighted and tickled pink to receive a pack of the Ensemble Ephemera in my kit!  I used bits and pieces of the pack on every single project I made this month!

33

33-sm
This is a layout that started as one thing and then just evolved into something else entirely!

33Detail1-sm
I added some Distress Stickles to this paper book plate to make it sparkle a bit with vintage glam!

33Detail2-sm
These fabric and batting flowers from Basic Grey are really pretty.  (I added the flower rhinestone at the center, but the rest of the flower comes that way — with the button and the stitching and all that.)  I appreciate how super sticky this flower is too!  The adhesive on the back is really strong, which is so fabulous!   It stays put.

33Detail3-sm
More "vintage" ephemera and some sparkly numbers.  The colored background for this layout is a mixture of Distress Ink and Spray Ink.

33Detail4-sm
I free-motion stitched leaves all over the border stickers and then painted the stitching in with watercolor paints.  I'm kind of thrilled with the look!

Model Face

Modelface-sm
This layout feels a little different for me.  Lots of crazy patterns going on and no paint or ink!  What is happening?  There was a thread on 2Peas about "your current
go-to technique" and so many people said mists and spray ink.  I find myself gravitating towards stitching.  Maybe because I just need to be different?  I don't know.  But something tells me the winds of change are coming!

ModelfaceDetail1-sm
I typed my journaling on a piece of densely patterned paper.  I tend to reach for cardstock to make sure my journaling is 100% legible, but I'm liking the way it looks on patterned paper.

ModelfaceDetail2-sm
I took one of the die cut border strips and hacked it up, putting pieces all over the background of my photos.

ModelfaceDetail3-sm
Love, love, love the faux vintage buttons from Jenni Bowlin.  And how cheery is that yellow polka dot alphabet?  (Stitching is a great way to make sure your "self-adhesive" letters stay in place.)  The mulberry paper and corrugated cardboard are both from that same K&Co. pack of "vintage" ephemera.

Scrappy Mini Book

Minibook-closed-sm
I loved making this little book.  I used up all the scraps and bits and leftover pieces from the kits.  (btw: Isn't that faux old book cover too cool?  7gypsies made it and it comes in a pack with two covers – front and back.)  Here's what the front cover looks like unwrapped:

BookUnwrapped-sm
Notice how that Basic Grey flower is stuck to the ribbon.  Seriously good adhesive, I'm telling you!  Here's a view from the side:

Bindingribbon-attached
The inside of the book is blank right now, but consists of 3 basic types of pages: pockets, flaps, and regular pages.

Pocketpage-sm
Pocket pages are pretty self-explanatory: I created pockets that can be filled!

Flap-sm
Flap pages are pages that have a little paper flap that something can be tucked under, such as the photo in the example above.

Regularpage-sm
And above is a regular page: just scraps of paper stitched together.

I'm looking forward to filling my mini book with lots of memories!  And I'm going to share a short tutorial on the bones of putting the book together at the end of the month.

Let me know if you have a question about anything you see and I'll do my best to answer it!  Thanks for stopping by!

  • Happy belated birthday!!
I love your painted flower. And I need to tell you, that you’re to blame if I had to explain to my mother, why I really need my old typewriter from high-school (we had typing as one of the subjects). It was rather embarassing to explain 😉

The BG flowers are a must and I really like how you layered the border strips (I know what you mean about getting the pieces out).

  • So much inspiration! I do have a question. On the party 33 layout (Happy Birthday, too!), how did you make the dotted background at the top? Inking or spraying over some kind of stencil?
