Yes, I am officially butterfly obsessed.  Obsessed, I tell you!

So it's not surprise that when given the opportunity to decorate for Passover, I chose butterflies!  I made a banner to hang on the ceiling over the table:

Garland1
Garland2
Garland3
It was difficult to photograph (as you might have noticed).  Here's a vaguely better look:

Table-far

And on the tabletop below, you can see that I made butterfly place cards too!

Table
Placecard
Bookpageplacecard
They're made from book pages.  Here's how to do it:

STEP ONE: Staple an image of a butterfly onto your book page.

Staple
I just used one I found on the internet through a google search.

STEP TWO: Cut around the butterfly, through both layers of paper.

Cutbothlayers
The staple is just an easy way to hold the two pieces together while you cut.

STEP THREE: Fold the butterfly in half and make an upward snip.

Snip
This upward snip is how the butterfly sits on the rim of the glass.

STEP FOUR
: Glue the name onto the inside of the butterfly and place on the rim of the glass.

Frontview
From the side, you can't see the name.  The butterfly looks like it's just floating on the edge of the cup!

Sideview
Here are all my place cards waiting to go to the table:

Lotsofbutterflies
And my friend Cheryl even put her place card right into her hair:

Cheryl
So cute!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. A bit of good news came my way today!  I'll have an article and some art in the upcoming Cloth Paper Scissors Gifts Magazine!  Yay!

  • I liked the idea of using paper from the book a lot, as it makes the decorative details somewhat random and interesting. Have you invented any more ideas with butterflies Julie?
There is a great butterfly animation set to Julian Cochran’s music
