I headed into a bit of new territory recently: graphic design.
Sakura of America is a wonderful company that I work with a lot and they asked me if I'd be interested in creating an ad for them — something that would run in magazines like Cloth Paper Scissors and Rubber Stamp Madness. They gave me some parameters and a few ideas and here's what I came up with:
I created the artwork in the ad, photographed it, and then added the rest in Photoshop. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. (And the good folks at Sakura were too!) I think your eye goes to the artwork, then the title and then the logo — just as it should! And the Glaze pens really are the best! I use them all the time. My favorite thing to do is to color in titles with them. It creates a kind of faux epoxy look that I like. Here's a layout where I used them to color in the title:
And I used the clear Glaze on this one to create a resist:
I'm kind of nerdy level excited to see my ad in print!

The ad rocks! I finally bought a set of the glaze pens near the end of last year. I haven’t figured out how to get as much dimension as your ad shows. Do you let it dry and go over it a second time? Or do you have more patience then me and just go REAL slow? :o)

Kelli: Go really slowly and yes, you can absolutely go over it a second time! The kind of paper you use matters as well. I find theres more dimension on a glossier paper that the ink sinks into less. Good luck!
