I have a sort of obsession with monochromatic layouts. Whenever I see them I just stare and stare. However, I have made very few of them myself. I don't know why? I think I just like color too much! However, when I saw the new papers from the Herbier collection, I couldn't help myself! It's ironic because the collection is full of pinks and oranges, but I was drawn to the beiges. Here's the monochromatic layout I created:
It's based on this week's Pencil Lines sketch:
My impulse was to put the title across the bottom, but I'm glad that the sketch encouraged me to put it on top. I think it's a better place for the title. Check out the rest of the details:
A collection of white elements: half a doily, some pearl brads, a paper flower, a Jenni Bowlin chipboard button, and a patterned paper ruffle.
And in the upper right corner another collection of white elements: a patterned paper ruffle, paper heart, and a jeweled circle. I think with monochromatic layouts you need to combine lots of different textures to make it all work.
So what do you think? Do you like monochromatic layouts? Hate them? Do you make them?

yes – isn’t it weird that monochromatic pulls you in? just a few simple little colors – all the same – can make such a statement! But yes – I LOVE LOVE LOVE mono layouts too – and this one by you Julie – is gorgeous – I think it shows me how important layering and texture is – I don’t think I have layered enough … nor paid close attention to textures…next layout – monochromatic WITH attention to layers & textures! 😉 Have a perfect day everyone!

I am like you and am drawn to them also. I LOVE color, but sometimes throwing a mono into the mix is good for ya 🙂 Textures are a greay way to pull it together and not make it feel blah!

I never do monochromatic LO’s but they do make me stop and look. The additional texture is needed for sure. I like the dramatic statement that your elegant Lo makes Julie.

I also make monochromatic cards that turn out awesome (well, at least that’s what the receiver’s tell me! lol) Wonderful layout and I found inspiration in the embellishments you used, as well as the placement. Didn’t have a chance to comment on the CHA pics … awesome and exciting … thanks! 🙂
