I was so über delighted when Doris invited me to guest design for Jenni Bowlin this month! (See the original post on the Jenni Bowlin blog here.) I have to admit that while I love and adore vintage I've never felt like I really did it well. So I was a bit intimidated when my box of delicious goodies arrived — afraid that I'd screw it up royally! But as with all things scary, as soon as I put my mind to, it turned out to be so very easy to mix Jenni's style with my own!
I used a craft knife to remove parts of the journaling cards so that they could be frames for my photos.
This woman's silhouette was removed from the center of the pink card above. I love using a craft knife to customize your products because then whatever you cut away is still use-able!
The journaling stamp was a square, but I needed to fill a rectangle. You can see that I simply masked off the top of the stamp and stamped it again at the bottom of the image to create a longer stamped image.
These large silhouette rub-ons were so super scary to me when I first saw them. But the longer I stared at them, the more they started to look like characters from my favorite novel: Pride & Prejudice!
I painted the background with two colors of watercolor paint to create this wash you see.
A tiny patterned paper heart completes the love theme on the page!
Another silhoutte found its way onto this layout!
I layered the pink silhouette on top of the black "machine needles" rub-on. I felt like the black rub-on would dominate (and even title) the page if I didn't obscure it slightly. And I love the way the journaling inside the silhouette looks!
I super duper love this pinked circle stamp. I used some scrap paper to mask it off so that I only got half of the image across the top of my layout. The center is colored with watercolor paint.
The photo was fading out, so I used a black pen to outline the sewing machine and really make it pop!
This is about as clean and simple as I get! And I really love it!
I used the journaling label stamps as containers for hand cut pieces of patterned paper. Jenni Bowlin offers paper in 12×12 and little 4×4 packs as well. I used the two different sizes of the same patterns together for a really cool look!
I used acrylic paint to paint this Eiffel Tower embellishment on a book page. I cut it out and popped it up with foam adhesive.
And finally an art journal page:
I love how the black rub-on (it's a big clock that I cut into three pieces) is so vibrant and dark.
You can see that I did some embossing (pinked circle stamp) with clear embossing powder. And I switched pens half way through my journaling. I think it turned out pretty cool!
So there you go! Lots of vintage goodness Julie style! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!

I’m amazed at how you took Jenni’s products and incorporated them into your unique style. I especially loved the page with the large silhouette rub-ons (I’m a big Pride & Prejudice fan!)

LOVE all of them but love the Mr. Darcy one! We were just in Bath, UK and visited the Jane Austen Museum. My girls had their pictures taken with a picture of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy so I bought the rub-on, paper and journaling tags a few weeks ago! I love the way you used them. Now I wish I had purchased the female silhouette!
