I am so excited to share that I'll be teaching THREE classes at BizzyB up in Toronto, Canada!  And I want to have lots of fun people to play with, so mark your calendars and get your plane tickets because these are going to be *awesome* classes!

All three classes show you very different techniques, so you're definitely going to have to take all of them!  C'mon who doesn't want to spend a weekend giggling and splashing around in paint?

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30: Funky Art Cards (3 hour class)

AllCards-sm
We’ll make seven gorgeous cards in just three hours! Wow! You’ll learn simple techniques that lead to awesome artsy results. Julie will share some of her favorite techniques with you, including ideas for doodling, hand cutting, creating dimension, and using stencils. Even if you’re not a card maker, you’ll take home fun and easy techniques that you can use on your scrapbook pages or in your art journal.

Here's a better look at the cards:

SATURDAY: OCTOBER 1: Stamped & Stenciled Pocket Book (6 hour class, plus a 1 hour lunch break)

JournalWithPen-sm
In this class Julie will show you how to make your own gorgeous “papers with personality” using stamps and stencils. The emphasis is on working in layers, understanding water solubility, color mixing, and creating pleasing compositions. Julie will also share how to make your own totally fabulous handmade tape. We will use that tape to bind a hand-bound-no- sew-pocket-filled journal! That’s right! You can make this gorgeous 6×9 book with absolutely no sewing! There are six front facing pockets that hold long cards for journaling. And one side facing memorabilia pocket in the front cover. And this book even opens up to allow for a row of photos or memorabilia to be pasted onto the backs of the pocket pages.

SUNDAY: OCTOBER 2: Painted Paper Collage

Face-sm
The first half of class will be spent creating our own unique papers for collage. We’ll be flinging paint, doodling, and creating patterns. In the second half of class I’ll show you how easy it is to create recognizable images with your collaged papers.   You will leave class with TWO completed canvases!  Whee!

Contact BizzyB if you're interested in coming to play!  Most supplies are included in the price of the class!  Which if you've ever taken a class from me, is highly highly highly unusual!

P.S. I've been told that Porter Airlines is having a 50% off airfare sale.

  • Totally jealous, I’d love to come and play but I’ll just have to stick with the online classes for now (Australia to Canada’s just a wee bit far for a class!)

  • Any chance some of these classes will be offered online? I started watching your videos in August and scouring websites to find your stencils. After waiting “patiently” for Sept 1 to arrive, now I am waiting for many of them to arrive at my home – can’t wait! Looking at the cards, etc. you guys will create causes me to want to order the 6x6s of the 12x12s I ordered already and 12x12s of the 6x6s!
Your honesty in your art, confidence in who you are as an artist, as well as your love of art is truly inspiring. You blogged a few weeks ago about being rejected by magazines. Look at all the people you are accepted by!! Your work is creative and fun, exciting, uncomfortable in its honesty sometimes (because I can relate) and therefore freeingly challenging!
All the magazines and their artists are well and good in their safe work, I enjoy it. But your work, it touches my heart!
Thank you for staying true to you and doing what you love.

  • Love all your work Julie and have been following you religiously. I remember seeing a post where you made some rubber stamps and I was hoping to try this myself but I can’t seem to find that post and of course, I didn’t bookmark it. Could you point me in the right direction as well as providing a link to a site where I can buy the necessary implements of destruction? Thank you for your help and your continued inspiration.
