Cocoa Daisy is having an online crop this weekend!
As you can see there are a ton of challenges, prizes, and live chats! Make sure you are registered on the message boards so you can play along! My challenge is about hand lettering:
You can see hand lettering all over craft fairs — posters, signs, price tags. Why not bring some funky hand lettering to your layouts? For this challenge forget the computer, typewriter, and letter stickers! Grab a marker, a pen, or a paint brush and create your own fonts!
This is a very simple layout. I used a bit of washi tape, traced the Fragmented Flower stencil (6×6) and then went to town with a black pen and a bit of blue watercolor.
I hope you'll play along with the challenge and I really hope you'll join me for the chat on Saturday because I'm going to be very sad if it's just me sitting there talking to myself! 😉
Today I'm giving away one of these awesome Cocoa Daisy Tote Bags that I designed…
…along with one of Cocoa Daisy's exclusive Dresden Plate Stamps!
If you're interested in winning the tote bag and the stamp, please answer the following two questions:
- What types of items do you like to see in a kit?
- Do you currently subscribe to a kit club? Why or why not?
Hope to see you on the Cocoa Daisy message board!

1.What types of items do you like to see in a kit? I love to see patterned paper, cardstock, stamps!, templates, and inspiration is essential.
2.Do you currently subscribe to a kit club? Why or why not?
Not right now – I honestly can’t afford it at thos point.

The crop sounds like tons of fun Julie! I plan to participate for sure on Friday and Sunday. Hopefully I can check in from time to time on Saturday too – I have an all day crop tho.
1. I love to awesome colors, unique things that could be used for mixed media projects, and also vintage/retro stuff.
2. I don’t subscribe to any kit clubs right now. I might in the future, depending on what was offered.

I prefer a kit that will end up with a project. I like to see paper, embellishment product, sometimes vintage if that works with the theme. If anything special is needed to finish a kit I like to see that there too. My subscription to my most recent kit club just ran out. I am not going to renew right now because of financial circumstances.

1. I love to see something surprising in a kit – something I wouldn’t have bought myself but love it when I see it. Versatility.
2. I am currently between kit clubs – have subscribed to two different kit clubs. I love the surprising element in receiving a kit but dislike paying international postage fees…

1. would love to get something I can’t normally purchase at my LSS, maybe something fun off etsy or a brand new stamp or stencil, something that would show me a new technique.
2. I am not a kit club member because I never know what to do with all that stuff.

1.Really, would love to see anything. Everything new, is a challenge to me. Just seeing new materials gives me a sence of joy, and happiness. Therefor, I would be grateful to see anything that will inspire me to play.
2. I am not a kit member….I just heard about it…I will look into it!
Thanks for a wonder blog….Loving it!!!

I love to see stamps, inks, paints, stencils, vintage findings, lace trims, ribbons, fabrics and gorgeous papers in a kit! I’ve always had a kit subscription since I started scrapbooking. Right now I subscribe to Scarlet Lime’s monthly kit. I love getting my monthly kit because shopping is very limited where I live for craft supplies and I always have to order my supplies online so it’s super convenient to receive a bundle of goodies in one kit monthly! Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

As far as what’s in a kit, I guess it really doesn’t matter to me. I’ve never purchased a kit, since I don’t have a lot of money and there are usually things in the kits that I wouldn’t use.

Hi Julie, I’ll be there for the Cocoa Daisy crop. I’m an online crop addict:)))
I love to see paints, mists, stencils, stamps and such in a kit and I think Christine is doing a great job with Cocoa Daisy kits.
I’m not presently subscribing to any kit club because it takes forever for the kits to arrive from the US and the Italian postal and/or customs officers slab EVERY single time an additional fee to the packages. When I know I’ll be in the States, I order several kits together and have them sent to my sister’s place and I will collect them there.

1. In the kits, I like seing the embellishments. Mostly, I love flowers.
2. I don’t subscribe to kit clubs. I’m on a very low budget for scrapbooking/crafts so generely, I go to the dollar store and buy a little.
Thanks for the chance and have a nice day.

I like seeing a bunch of different manufacturer’s products put together in a grouping that really works. I’m not very good at mixing and matching so I love it when someone else does it for me.
I don’t subscribe to any kits right now because, honestly, I can’t afford to, but there are many I would love to do if I could.

Hmmmmm. In a kit, I would like tools, things I can use again, like stencils and stamps. Handmade, vintage findings, and I love ribbons, tapes and spray colours.
I just let my SU demonstratorship lapse, after almost 9 years, 8 of which I was my own customer most of the time. So I couldn’t justify any type of kit membership.

I like to see lots of embellishments in a kit.
I don’t subscribe to a kit club because I already have WAY too much stuff! If I would use kit club products when I receive them it would be okay, but most likely I would just stash them. I do like to buy kits, but not on a subscription basis.

I would like a kit club that had all the basics for learning a technique. For example, a kit with one or two of your stencils and then a couple sample items ie. brush, paint or watercolors that you would recommend so that I could follow your tutorials on your blog or in your classes. I know there are others like myself that can’t find locally what you or others recommend product-wise. I don’t belong to a kit club for two reasons – most are too expensive $40 or more plus shipping seem to be the cost for most of them. The second reason is that I only need so many mini-albums or whatever is coming in the kit or they don’t work for the projects I want to do. Thanks, Julie, for the opportunity to express my thoughts on this.

Thanks for the crop info.
I must “say, I was “thrown” for a second – wondering what the word “MONS” meant in some of your flower petals. I finally figured it out that it was “SNOW”.
I live in the mountains above Palm Springs in California, and we got our first snow this past weekend. What the heck is up with that? We didn’t even get to experience the “fall” season.
As for kits – I have never subscribed to them just because I have too much stuff to begin with. But now – I can’t even afford to do so – unemployment sucks!!!!

HI Julie – based post last week I ordered a tote and joined the stamp kits club. I got them on Monday! Whee! I’m sure my luck will hold and I won’t be randomly selected but if so, please move on to another poster to win the goodies. I have them and love them. I thought their stamp designs unique and perfect for the kind I’ve been looking to use in journals.

I used to subscribe to several different clubs but found that most of what I would receive were things I already had. I’m too much of a supply shopper! Then I’d end up with too much unused product and it wasn’t really cost efficient.
I do like the community aspect of kit clubs that have crops such as the one this weekend, and galleries, and whatnot. I will try to pop in for sure this weekend.

I like the kit to contain everything that I need to complete the project as it is shown on the package or in an online photo. I like it to contain quality materials in generous quantities — especially if the products are difficult to find.
I do not belong to a kit club because I have a huge stash of “stuff” and like to be able to use it.
Thanks!

Looks like it’s going to be a great Crop!
My perfect kit club would be small, less than $25, have some vintage or retro items, be all embellishments but not the same things that every other kit club is using, and no paper. I already have tons of paper so don’t need it.
I am not a member of any club right now because my perfect kit doesn’t exist. I keep looking!

Ok I’ll try the challenge; I did one in the spring via The Big Picture all about composition which was good for me at the time. Kit club is a different story, I tried one in spring that seemed to have great content and an active community but the website was very problematic in that the vendor didn’t use pay pal & didn’t have a good way of archiving my data – I had to go back 3 times to correct billing problems & it turned into a “bad date”. That said, if I joined another club, I’d look for a pay pal operation.

Oooh I really want that bag AND that stamp so here I am!!
I like to see a good mix of items in a kit – from a) Manufacturers that I like and that are b) well-known with longevity (not companies that could be out of business by next season) although when a really GOOD new company like Echo Park hit the market it’s great to be the first to get that too c) the stuff must be really up to date.
As an international (living in South Africa) with virtually no access to stash belonging to a kit club makes it easier for me to get my paws on a good mix of up-to-date stash although I do online shop too…
I subscribe to Little Black Dress at the moment but won’t continue as there’s no forum and hardly any community interaction. I’ve subscribed to Cocoa Daisy & Studio Calico in the past & will probably go back to both next year 🙂

I really enjoy receiving small amounts of different embellies (bling and flowers and such)…as opposed to getting too much of one kind if I buy a package on my own. I also like getting different kinds of pp (from different companies) to go together.
I currently get the Cocoa Daisy kit each month and it rocks!

Hi. Great giveaway…would love to win.
I don’t usually purchase kits because they are too expensive, and I prefer to select my own product. I am not very “project-oriented.” I prefer to play creatively and come up with my own designs/pages. The only kind of “kit” that might interest me would be one that was not “project oriented.” Like, a collage kit with a variety of ephemera.

I love vintage embellies and unique items. I dont belong to a kit club. I worry that I will get boxes of things I won’t use.

1. I love coordinated embellishments, especially letter stickers.
2. I don’t subscribe to kits because I usually only like half of the products, then have leftovers that I don’t know what to do with that don’t really match anything.

I wish I had access to things Iike the Cocoa Daisy club! You’d think living near Silicon Valley I would…
In kits, I’d like to see personal favorites of an artist. In your case, it might be the fab tape I keep hearing about, favorite pens, etc. or a selection of items that over a years time might equal a full kit. Like if it were a travel sketch kit, you get a little book, some pens, watercolors, etc. over time.
I don’t currently get kits because I didn’t know about them.

I’d like to see unusual things that can’t be found in craft stores. Love stencils, stamps and would like to see pens included. I am a supply hound!
I have never tried a kit club but am thinking that I might try one because it would be fun to get a “surprise gift” in the mail – even though I paid for it.

Thank you for telling us about the crop … I will mix it up on Saturday–with house stuff and cropping…I do not like to subscribe to kit clubs because I find that I end up with stuff that I do not care for//or will not use. As they are pricy–I would rather go to my LSS and make my own purchases for a kit … but in a kit I like tools … that I can use again on other projects ….

Love your hand lettering layout, Julie. I generally don’t buy kits unless I see one on a clearance shelf that catches my eye. I feel like kits limit my creativity. Having said that, what I like to see in a kit is something unique: i.e. papers, ephemera (original), etc. In other words, something I wouldn’t already have around the craft room.
Thanks for sharing…

I like to see unique items in a kit, something I can’t readily find at my LSS. Vintage/one-of-a-kind items are always great, too.
I’ve occasionally bought kits, when I see something I really like. I’m not so great at using product I wouldn’t typically buy (colours that don’t speak to me, etc.), and I don’t scrap fast enough to go through an entire kit each month on top of the other shopping I do. But the single biggest reason I don’t subscribe is the cost of shipping to Canada; it makes the kits just too expensive, especially when I can buy much of what I like locally.

I would like to see the latest and greatest and trendiest scrapbooking products in standard size with any type of adhesive also included. Idea sheets using the products would be helpful. Currently I don’t buy kits because they seem pricey and I don’t have control over what I am buying. Maybe if a choice is offered and outlined in detail on the site I might change my mind but I am one of those people that likes choice and likes to see and touch what I am buying.

1. I prefer a kit with more embellishments and less paper. I have enough paper, but I can always use more embellishments. Also love if it includes a mist or a paint, or stencil.
2. Not subbing right now. The kits come faster than I scrap lol. But I do buy random kits once in a while now.

Hi Julie,
I love your snow layout, beautiful snowflakes. I am horrible at drawing snowflakes, so just seeing how cool yours are is making me SMILE BIG!!! How cool that you wrote snow in all of them, going to give it a try this year and see what happens.
Thanks so much for a fun giveaway, these are great prizes. I would love a kit with just a few new things that I normally don’t buy or something new to try. Would be great to have a page sample with it and some goodies that all mix/match. I wouldn’t be too picky. Have never been in a kit club before because of finances but really would enjoy one though at the right price and right time for me.
Thanks again.

Haha! Me, too! I was wondering in what language “mons” meant “snow”! Uh, English, Dumb-dumb! 🙂

Hello, I would love to see stencils, stamps, paper
a ephemera in kits that would come together as a
complete project. I am not a member of a kit club because
I haven’t found one I was interested in. Thanks

i love to see coordinating colours – in ways i wouldn’t think. Also, i don’t subscribe to a kit club at the moment. My son was diagnosed with an extremely rare Neurological disorder called Moebius Syndrome, and when my mat leave ended in October, we made the tough (financial) decision for me to stay at home.
This has really been a lesson in using the supplies i already have, though i’d love a few more… 😉

Love, love, love the hand lettering! I do that a lot in my art journal pages but not so much on scrapbook pages beyond journaling blocks. Found out a long time ago it was quicker to write than to wait until I had time to type it up on my computer. Plus I think it is a cool memory to have my handwriting on the pages.
As far as kits go, I don’t subscribe to any. I have so much stuff and I still have several years worth of kits that I never used due to the stuff not being my style or whatever reason I didn’t use it. It is better for me to wait until I am working on a specific project and then buy what I need to complete it than have tons of stuff I don’t even remember what I have to use it. That doesn’t stop me from buying more stuff but seriously I need to use what I have!
Aloha, Kate

love the community that surrounds a kit club, but actually haven’t ever ordered a kit – i think i have most of the stuff already!
i’m not much into the actual layouts lately – mostly been making cards and ATC’s and art journalling, so a kit would take those things into consideration would be neat to find – and one that shipped at a reasonable cost to canada!

I like to have instructions, any unusual embellishments and patterns and papers in a kit.
As to subscribing to monthly kits…they are great but I just find that I can’t keep up with them and they accumulate too fast but I do like the unusual variety of stuff.

I am not a matchy-matchy person. That said, the thing I like about kits like Cocoa Daisy’s is that everything goes together but comes from a bunch of different lines and manufacturers. I love when they include items such as mists, stencils, and stamps. To me, those items make it! Cocoa Daisy even coordinates the tissue paper packaging to what was ordered. Love that!
I don’t subscribe to a kit club right now. One of the main reasons is that they would come too often for me. I would like to order kits one at a time, or maybe a subscription that comes every other month.

I love when they include items such as mists, stencils, and stamps. To me, those items make it! Cocoa Daisy even coordinates the tissue paper packaging to what was ordered. Love that!

I’ve never been in a kit club; actually had never heard of them before your blog. I would love to get new items, though, ones that I don’t have and be able to experiment with. I am going to join the stamp club to get new stamps every month. I have just started loving stamps!

Ooh, the crop looks like it’s gonna be a blast! I’m definately gonna have to join in!
1. I love kits and how all the products are coordinated for you. I like when unique items like etsy finds and vintage bits are included. I also like the option if some of the things included are not just for layouts but can be used for other projects as well, like in art journaling and such.
2. I am no longer subscribing to any kit clubs at the moment, although I did for a number of years to a number of diff. clubs. I am currently in transition (aka unemployed :p) so they are a bit too costly for me to subscribe to, but sometimes if I see a kit that I just gotta have I’ll buy them if available without membership.

No, I do not subscribe to a kit club. I do more mixed media stuff, rather than scrapbook, lately. I did see a mixed media art kit with subscription that just started at Scarlet Lime, but that is the first I’ve seen. Maybe I haven’t looked around hard enough. That is also the type of kit club I would consider joining. Something with templates, Faber Castell products, mists, ink pads and stamps, etc. Thanks for the chance to win.

I love to see things in a kit that can be used in lots of ways – technique is my interest lately – not so much planned scrapbooking. Also, things that push me to try something I might not usually use or is really new. I don’t subscribe right now to any kits because when I have subscribed I fall behind, end up with lots of stuff I haven’t used, then feel stressed to keep up.

1. I would like “just enough” ribbon, buttons, ephemera. I love the coolness of embellishments but it really stresses me out to acquire too many leftovers. And, no, I just cannot throw them out.
2. I don’t subscribe at this time for a few reasons. Budget, like everyone else I guess. Plus I wonder what I’d do with a kit that wasn’t something I would have picked–colors, patterns, etc. Would I feel that I could use it or would it sit?
Thanks!!

I do subscribe to a kit club. I love them. The newer the products the better for me. Although I’d rather shop locally, my local craft stores are typically selling “last season” supplies. I enjoy getting limited edition stamps, too. For me, it’s all about the challenge of using supplies I probably wouldn’t have picked up on a shopping trip (I tend to buy the same things over and over).

I do not subscribe to a kit club; I have tons of stuff and sometimes find it difficult to have time to create and use this stuff. If I subscribed to a kit club I would like to find stamps in it. Thanks for the chance to win.

I loveeeee the simplicity of your layout and I’m a sucker for typography so I think it’s beautiful.
1- As a more mixed media scrapper I like it when there are things like stamps and/or stencils included. I’m also a sucker for letter stickers.
2- Not at the moment, although I would love to. I just recently started scrapping again. It’s not financially smart for me though currently.

What would I like to see in a kit? All the good stuff YOU use to art journal with! I have the scrapbooking nosh but never thought of stencils, all those fabulous Sakura pens, misters, etc. I am not in a kit club currently.

I would like to get instructions and materials for new techniques.
I have been a member of a couple scrapbooking kit club, but not now. I just don’t have the time.
I’m not sure what a crop is, but it looks like a lot of fun. Could someone explain how it works?

I have so many random items, that I am afraid to add new kits to my stash, at this time. so at this time I am not buying a kit club. The kits I enjoy are ones that can be used over and over, so Stamps, stencils and papers that would work in many differt ways. I love your stencils and stamps, because they are so versital. I’m loving the 0 day art journaling class.

1. I like to receive lace and ribbons, printed tags/labels, inks/paints, almost anything, but especially something beyond what I might purchase that will get me thinking in a different direction; something to challenge me.
2. Not currently in a kit club, it’s just not in the budget right now, but would consider it if the right one came along.

I like to see items that I wouldn’t normally buy for myself in a kit. I also like detailed instructions for a few items to make with the kit.
I used to belong to a kit club but it got too pricey and the shipping was really high.

I would like to have items in a kit that are unique and not available at your LSS and also tools that can be used over and over again (like stencils, stamps, pens, etc.). I use to subscribe to a couple of different kit clubs, but that was over a year ago. It just seems that once you pay for the kit AND shipping, you don’t get your money’s worth. IMHO.
Thanks Julie for the great giveaway!

haven’t ever signed up for a kit club. the ones i have looked at have too many items in them that i would never use. i prefer to buy what i need/want. for instance, i have a lot of paper and prefer to buy it in stores where i can see the true colors and check the weight. there are some kits where i would like to have the stamps, stencils, etc but buying the whole kit is too expensive. what i would like to see is smaller kits or subsets of larger kits oriented to bolder, more colorful mixed medial projects.

I subscribe to a few kit clubs just because there isn’t a LSS anywhere near me. I love seeing stamps, masks/stencils/ ephemera, unique items and the usual. I like having the challenge of working with what is in front of me and making it last and using it up. No waste here:)

I really love getting embellishments for my pages (especially metal) and then idea sheets for how to use them. I do not subscribe to a kit club because I have so much stuff, I can’t justify it. I try to buy items on sale because of a limited budget. I would love to be part of one. It just isn’t in my cards right now!
Beautiful bag and stamp! Thanks so much for the chance to win!

I love to see lots of different types of supplies, not just papers and stickers. I love to find unexpected things like cupcake liners, antiqued necklace chain, stick of melting wax, etc. I love the challenge of trying to use those supplies with the rest of the kit. I also like to see something that will extend beyond the life of the kit (stamp, stencil, glimmer mist, pen, or a new technique).
My hubby has just informed me that Santa will be bringing me a subscription to kit club, and I will most likely be using it for Project 12.

1. I love finding kits with unusual items and colors or picked by “guest” designers.
2. I don’t subscribe because of the cost and knowing I might not love everything that is chosen every month.

I was just invited to join my LSS’s design team and got my first kit this month. It wasn’t limiting at all and it saved me time and I got to try products I might have ignored.
To answer your questions:
I like to unique things (vintage finds, stamps, art journaling supplies, etc…) but not the same things every month. for example, I’m not interested in getting a new stamp every month.
I also think a kit should make the unique item should be usable with kit supplies. For example, if you include a stencil then include a spray.
Finally, I haven’t belonged to a kit club because I am lucky enough to have a great LSS. I want it to stick around so I shop there.
ps: love the snowflake layout. great inspiration as always!

Hi Julie! My favorite thing to get in a kit is stamps. Especially if the design is made by a person involved in the kit club and not some huge manufacturer. I like having things that not everybody has. I currently belong to Cocoa Daisy and when I first starting scrapping I joined a (now defunct) club so I could build my supplies. Thanks for rocking my art world!

Well, I never heard of a KIT CLUB until tonight and from what I’ve read, it sounds like they would be fun surprises that would be full of “things” I could use, experiment with, or possibly give away. Receiving something I have no idea WHAT it is that is on the way to me is like Christmas. Oh, the anticipation and the wait! Hope it would be well worth it. As far as joining a kit club, it would depend upon how much it costs. I’d love to find out more! Bring it on!
Thanks, for the offer to try try for your gift, Julie!

I am not currently in a kit club. I would love to see stamps, stencils, rub-ons and fun paper in a club. I would also be interested in a handmade journal kit club… fun stuff!!
Currently I participate in Ink Drop, a monthly ink sample club. I will definitely be testing some of the inks in my art journal!

I would love to see stamps, stencils, rub-ons and fun paper in a kit. I would especially be interested in a handmade journal kit club if the price was reasonable. Quality is the most important thing for me in a kit.
Fun, fun!

Traditionally a crop is an event where people get together and scrapbook. An online crop is an event full of challenges and chats online — most people have a computer near their scrap desk, so they scrap and type and scrap and type. Hope to see you there!

Currently I don’t subscribe to a kit club. The reason, at the moment, is the cost. That does not keep me from examining them closely on line. In the scrapbooking kits, I am attracted to the brand new items, especially embellishments that can carry over into other projects. Recently I saw some wonderful journal kits on line from artist/teacher Fran Meneley that included a number of writing tools, the Sakura water brush. I would like kits that included things like your 6×6 stencils or other Crafters Warehouse designs. A kit, to me, offers a chance to experiment or follow a template and introduces the subscribers to a wide variety of products.

1. Love to have tools that can be used over and over, like stamps and stencils. Also, embellishments that you don’t find everywhere.
2. If my budget allowed I would have a difficult time choosing. There are many wonderful kits being offered. Maybe in the future, in the meantime I really love to look.

In a kit, I like to have something that will be a complete project when done and will insipre me to try something new.
I’m busy and not very computer savy and I really don’t know what a kit club is?

1.What types of items do I like to see in a kit?
I love the exclusive stamps. The Dresden Plate stamp in the current Cocoa Daisy kit is so simple but just full of potential. I like buttons, stick pins, ribbon, etc. I have so much paper, I would rather have spray mists, paint and other paper enhancers. Of course a bit of paper is good too.
2. Do I currently subscribe to a kit club?
No I don’t but am seriously considering it. I spend way too much on scrapbooking stuff every month. I think I’ll subscribe to a kit and let that be my spending for the month. At least try. I purchased the November Cocoa Daisy kit and was very pleased with it.

I like to see coordination in a kit, cardstock would like to see more than a couple of sheets, then pp and embellishments to match theme of kit.
I do not currently subscribe as am on a fixed income and am trying to get some bills caught up so I can afford to have some spending money eg enough for a decent kit,

I like unique items in the kits and things you might have overlooked in the online/local shops. I really do like stamping though -so I love seeing stamps in the kits. I currently subscribe to Studio Calico but am open to trying new kit clubs!

In kits, I like to get something I’ll be able to use for other projects-a tool, a stamp, an ink or mist.
I’m not in a kit club for two reasons: I can’t afford it and too often there are kits just not to my taste.
By the way, your tote design is fabulous.

I’m all set for the crop. Can’t wait to see what it will be like. Thanks for informing of this opportunity. Sent my answers to your question in an earlier response.

I like getting coordinated product in a kit, papers and stamps being my favorites. I love fibers/ribbons that coordinate also.
I do subscribe to a kit club and like the surprise factor each month and all the things that go together. I like getting fresh, new product!
