Four things of note from me today:

ONE

This weekend I am teaching a stamp carving class full of techniques for patterning that will blow your mind.

CarvingStampsforPatterning
You'll be blown away by how easy it is to make these complex (and custom colored) patterns.  Class is Saturday at The Ink Pad.  Sign up here.

TWO

A number of people have written to me after taking one or more of the "Getting Started" classes and asked if they can now sign-up for all twelve at the reduced rate.

GettingStarted500
I'm so delighted that you love the classes and want to sign up for all of them.  Unfortunately, the answer is no.  The discount is for those who take the risk of purchasing all twelve classes at once.  Even without the discount I believe the classes are awesomely inexpensive for the amount of content and the quality of the instruction.  Thank you for understanding.

THREE

My favorite part of my job is experimenting!  So, I've been playing around with a bit of paper engineering.  It's not quite right, but I'll be sure to share once I perfect the process!

There is truly nothing you can't do with a craft knife and some imagination!

FOUR

The Balzer Designs monthly newsletter went out on May 1.

Each month I share some highlights from the past month and some notes on what's coming up in the next month.  If you'd like to subscribe, click here.  If you'd like to take a peek at this month's newsletter, you can see it here.

That's about all from here.  Thanks for stopping by!

  • I loved your online stamp carving class. I would love to learn your patterning stamp techniques, too, but doubt I’ll be able to catch a live class. Any chance you might offer that as an online one someday soon??? I am sure there would be a demand for it.

  • The paper engineering is really cool. I think maybe I could even do something simple. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sadly, craft knives usually leave me with a cut on a finger, but that card is super Julie!

You see, now I would have searched for a Silhouette cutting file or created one.

  • Hi Julie!
My friend, Jaq Belcher, is an artist who works strictly with white watercolor paper and an exacto knife. Her work is extraordinary and I think you would enjoy seeing it. Her blog is http://www.jaqbelcher.com but once you get there, link to her facebook page as it’s more up to date with current photos. There is inspiration galore there!

  • Very cool! I’ve been doing some paper engineering lately, too! I’ve been working on pull tab mechanisms like one finds in pop-up books to add movement to a couple of scrapbook pages. Patience is key! But the results are worth it! As always, thanks for sharing!

  • Liked your paper engineering. What fun it is to play!
Please tell me about your craft knife. I am always looking for tools with larger handles. Seems to help my hands – less stiffness.

  • Julie, does that kind of knife qualify as a “box cutter” for Saturday’s class at the Ink Pad? Will I want a knife bigger than an Xacto?
