Art Journal Every Day: Spring Please

ArtJournalEveryDayLogo-150If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

I work in several journals at the same time.  At the moment I think I have 3 or 4 "open" journals.  One of them is my travel "drawing" journal.  A few days ago I sat down at my Mom's kitchen table and took a few minutes to sketch the vase of flowers she had sitting there.

Overall
It takes hardly any supplies to do art journal spreads like this one.

Supplies
Rather than my usual handy dandy tiny box of watercolors, I used Peerless watercolors for this particular spread.

Watercolors
I'm kind of obsessed with their intensity of color at the moment.  And it's so easy to travel with them.  I simply slip this sheet into a page protector (which also works as a mixing palette).

Finally, I came across this link via Pinterest.  It's a great blog post from Alissa Duke about her travel sketchbook.  Definitely inspiring and worth a read!

Here is this week's linky list:

  • I love these watercolors! I have never seen them before. Can you only get them online or do art/craft stores usually carry them?

  • This is just beautiful!
I have dabbled in watercolors but tend to work more w/acrylics.
Just a quick question: How did you actually do the page–did you paint the background and leave space for the flower painting? Or outline the flowers, then paint the background? I always find that sort of thing very confusing!
    Thanks!
