Art Journal Every Day: January 2014 Dailies

ArtJournalEveryDayLogo-150If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

I'm sharing the rest of my January pages today.  All in all, it was a tough month for journaling because I was out of town for so much of it and no matter how much prep I do, I have a lot of trouble doing my daily art journal on the road.  The pages from today were all from after I got back home.  Some day I'll perfect my system and it will be a piece of cake to do it on the road!  A girl has to have dreams, right?

There are pretty much two recurring ways I create focal images in my journal: faces and bold lettering.

Recognize this print?  It's the one I shared in this stamp carving post.  Everything finds its way into my art journal eventually!

This spread incorporates a short page.  I used a tag (from this stamp carving post) to make it easy to turn.

This heart with the radiating lines is a step out from a DVD I did back in 2009, called Collage Fast & Furious.  It has been sitting in a drawer for years and now it finally has a home!

I used to doodle all the time and lately I've been finding my way to doing more of it.

The back of the tag became an easy place for me to add the month.   I like being able to quickly flip through my journal and figure out when the entries are from.

This face was drawn with a fat black marker.  I like the aggressive and graphic look of it.

A friend of mine challenged me to do some painting without using black.  Black is my crutch!  But, I took up her challenge and created this face!  No black!

I like incorporating photos into my art journal.  I don't do it often enough.  But I think it helps to place the spreads in time.  After all, my journals are little memory capsules.

Here is this week's linky list:

  • I love how you play with different size pages in your book and how things peek out from behind … since starting my daily journaling I’ve been playing it safe with a prebought artsketch book … I’m on my second one now …. maybe in the years to come I’ll brave to make my own … Thanks once again for the inspiration Julie, and have a great weekend!!!

  • Hi Julie! It occurred to me when reading about you travel journaling dilemma that you do such a nice job of including bits and bots into your journal why couldn’t you take a napkin or coaster or whatever, jot down your Dailey then go back home and incorporate it in your daily journal. Maybe you’ve thought of this and have already deemed it a bad idea.
