If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

I took a quick looksie through the Art Journal Every Day hashtag page and I thought I'd share some art that I found inspiring.  I tried to include a thought about why I liked the image and how it might influence me.  I hope that you'll find these images inspiring as well!

I like the thin pen lines.  One of the things a workshop teacher once told me is that you need to vary line weight in your work.  It's something that I don't always do, but I'm trying to be better about it.

There's a freedom in this that appeals to me.  There are no constraints of reality.  And I love the patterning in the big pink flower.

I'm not sure if that face is a bit of collage taken from a print of a Picasso or simply in the style of Picasso, but I love the emotional story it tells, especially paired with the stamped quote!

Aggressive paint strokes.  Big hole in one side.  Love it.

There's real emotion in that face.  I feel deep sadness.  I so often find that faces in art journals (my own included) are simply pretty.  I'm always excited to see one with soul!

Awesome collage!  Look at those eyes and those brows!  That's a wolf with personality.  And I adore the addition of the half circles along the left edge.

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleverydaysource: ninnynoo

I have always liked compositions where only part of the face can be seen.  This one is no exception.

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleverydaysource: katykatehadfield

I want this pattern on a dress, on a bag, on my plates, just in my life in general.

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleverydaysource: neencraft

When I saw this page I immediately knew that I liked it, but it took me a moment to be able to articulate why.  It's the composition.  I love the way the focal image guides your eye so clearly across the page.

I'd love to know what inspires you about these pages?  And be sure to post your pages online and hashtag them #artjournaleveryday!  I know we'd all love to see them!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I liked the faces looking into my eyes. And the last image is so full of energy, i can almost feel the bird flying off the page. The pattern looks great, the play of different line weights with few colors created a strong image.Art journalling still makes me happy and keeps me sane.Have a good weekend Julie 🙂 Thank you for sharing art and bringing artists together from all around the world.

  • Hi julie,
Just want to catch up here with you. I loved the pod cast. I think that when we want creativity to come out perfect. That is when we set ourselves up for a fall. The eye is in the beholder. When we think it is not good enough someone else might see it different and think it is great.
I love the wolf here too happy pupup143. Neencraft to me I am getting a creation right out of an intuitive feeling from it. I love it and the bird makes me want to fly with it.
All of these journals pictures are fantastic.
I remember you mentioned that someone had given you some tarot cards. I was listening to a program this week. One of the speakers is a visionary artist and mentioned how they take their old tarot cards and use them in collages and Journals.
Her name is Lisa De St. Croix.
I thought of you. I too have a deck. With that said I think I will be doing just that. I will at least have something to use them for as I do not read. I use them for creative inspiration.
I was impressed with her art. I would love to share her website with you.

I also loved the foamie video. I think my favorite was the bendable foamie stamp. They are large and beautiful.
I hope you have a great weekend.

  • Thanks so much for featuring my journal spread (the bird). I was reading your daily email as usual, scrolling down to see all the wonderful pages and stopped in complete shock when I saw mine. I am such a huge admirer of your work, Julie, and it means the world to me that you liked mine enough to include it on your blog. I really appreciate your thoughtful comments as well as those of Ozge, Fawna and Candy above. I often struggle with composition on my pages but this one just happened almost effortlessly.
