From the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #AJED #ArtJournalEveryDay If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

In searching the Art Journal Every Day hashtag I found some eye candy and thought it would be great to share with everyone.  I love discovering new folks online to gain inspiration from (and sometimes follow new people, too). Hope you'll like the pages, as well!

I love her crown of leaves!  Reminds me of  a tag I made a million years ago — okay, 2011 — that I have always loved.  Also, the soft background pastel colors create fabulous contrast against the black lines.

Big fan of flowers, and the bold black with white dots on the petals drew me in immediately!  Also, I enjoy seeing process shots - it makes it feel much more personal.

So many things here to love!  The background peeking through, sometimes slightly, but more so in the word 'Joy' here.  I think her expression reads joy so perfectly, too! The colors are great, and I love the patterning using stenciling.

This has lovely varied hand lettering that is small enough to read, but doesn't come off as too busy. The way the black letters and the green leaves lead your eyes all around the page is compelling.

Stars are another one of my favorite motifs.  I like way the star is covering the girl's face a bit – that's a great technique to utilize if you can't get the other eye as you'd like. Note to self for future drawings!

The curvy lines for the lettering are fabulous!  They are a perfect way to focus the viewer on your text.  The colors, repeated dots, and the doodled flower caught my eye as soon as I saw them!

This makes me want to cut up paper! The pencil/gray handwriting is a nice addition to this page.  It's actually pretty accurate, too (walking through some busy cities, I can say I am guilty of trying to follow someone else who seems to know what they're doing).  Also, the dimension on that paper is just awesome!

And last, but certainly not least, is a spread that features the Balzer Designs Mumsy stencil!  I like the way the stencil has been repeated on the four corners of the pages too.  Plus, there's an eye!  And you know how much I love eyes!

I hope you saw some pages that whet your creative appetite.  What speaks to you when looking for new art to draw inspiration from?  Remember, when you find an image you love, try to figure out what appeals to you and why. It is a technique that I think has made me a better artist!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I enjoyed seeing this collection. There is so much variation which is part of what makes it fun. Your commentary also helps me to see things in a new way.
