If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.
Today I'm sharing a process video based on a common query I get.
People often ask me what comes first on my journal pages: the writing or the arting?
Usually, it's the arting. But I'm always so pleased when the viewer can't tell. Did I write around the art or did I create the art around the writing? In this video, I share how I create little pockets of layered art to write around! Enjoy!
Here's a close up of that layered arting:
Supply information:
- Thermofax screens (video on using Thermofax screens in your art journal is HERE)
- acrylic paint is Golden Fluid & Heavy Body & Fluorescent, Dick Blick Matte
- Balzer Designs stencil from The Crafter's Workshop – In the video I accidentally call it "Flying Geese" but it's called "Stacked Triangles."
I hope you enjoyed the video! Thanks for stopping by!

Really great to see your process. The music was really fun, too! Inspired me to get up from the computer and go work in my art journal!

Don’t use shiny paints. They stick. And if you do use shiny paints, use a matte-ing agent, like this one: http://amzn.to/2ixDGLV to cover everything. Let dry overnight and your pages won’t stick!
