MoMA: The Rise of the Russian Avant-Garde

One more post of art from MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art) in NYC. Nathalie and I saw an exhibit called A Revolutionary Impluse: The Rise of the Russian Avant-Garde and liked it very much.  I think you will too!  Take a peek:

Lots of color and shape and ideas to inspire!  One of the best things about going to the museum with a friend who also loves art is that you both get excited and that energy starts to bounce around between you.  Nathalie and I had some great conversations about what we saw, our perspectives on it, and what we might take away from each piece.  Those kind of conversations always leave me excited to create, intellectually stimulated, and artfully sated.

Who do you go to the museum with?

Thanks for stopping by!

  • OH my gosh…I felt almost like I was there with you! So many pieces you shared. Thank you. I thought that one corner folded piece was fascinating for sure….why did they hang it so high up I wonder? Of all you showed there were only maybe 6 or 7 that grabbed me. I like non-objective art but these were so stark and so “pushy” and I guess I would not hang very few of these in my own home. They gave me to sense of comfort or beauty. These seemed “political” in some way or sometimes even “angry” and “edgy”. I can see from your wild expressions that you found some ideas and excitement there! Hahaha.

  • I agree with Ginny. The corner art also impressed me. Up high perhaps to keep hands off??? You two are quite a pair. I wish my German friend, Heike, lived nearby. She would be great to museum with.

  • Dear Julie,
My husband and I were just in NYC and viewed these same shows…….I have to say thank you for all the fantastic pictures of the exhibitions……especially of Picabia!
Have you seen the Alexei Jawlensky exhibit at the Neue (just a block or so north of the Met)? He was a contemporary of Kandinsky……..the show is fabulous…….I thought of you in particular with his series of portraits. I hope you saw or will get to see it. The museum also has a nice collection of Klimt and Egon Schiele.
Again, thanks for everything you do…….you are an amazing young lady!
    Sincerely,
    Marcia
