Today I'm sharing some more profiles of artists who participated in #CarveDecember! First up: Louise Nelson, aka loolabelle.
Q: How many times have you participated in #CarveDecember?
A: Twice
Q: Why did you decide to participate this year?
A: I absolutely love stamp carving but hadn’t done it for quite some time. #CarveDecember challenges and motivates me to ‘put my head down’ and just do it!
Q: How would you describe your stamp carving skill level?
A: Proficient
Q: What is your favorite thing about #CarveDecember?
Creating a stash of new stamps, oh and the actual act of carving; I find it very satisfying and at times therapeutic.
Q: What are three things you learned from participating in #CarveDecember?
A: Participating in #CarveDecember reminds me how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE to carve!
3 favorite prints from #CarveDecember:
My three favorite stamps are all a lil abstract and weird and it is just how I like them.
Stamp 1 Freaky Cat
I just love how style-wise this cat is a like a weird child-like drawing.
Stamp 2 Abstract Face
I just love how style wise it looks like a weird childish Picasso-like portrait.
Stamp 3 Simple Face
I just love the simplicity of this face; it's perfect for repetition stamping.
Next up is Michell Follett, aka mischievousredfox:
Q: How many times have you participated in #CarveDecember
A: 2017 was my first year
Q: Why did you decide to participate this year?
A: I have made a few stamps for other daily drawing challenges and really like the process. I thought it would be fun to have a goal to make stamps regularly. I am also interested in linocut printmaking and thought carving stamps would be a good way to get some skills.
Q: How would you describe your stamp carving skill level?
A: Beginner
Q: What is your favorite thing about #CarveDecember?
A: Seeing really great work to inspire me to keep carving!
Q: What are three things you learned from participating in #CarveDecember?
A:
- Garbage stamps! I have a bag of scraps that I had no clue what to do with, now I know!
- Keep it simple to keep up the momentum. When I’m first learning a new skill, I tend to want to make something elaborate and my skill level is not there yet. Making more simple stamps is perfect for me to learn the skills.
- Instagram is a very supportive environment.
3 favorite prints from #CarveDecember:
Thistle.
I liked creating a little vignette with a few simple forms. And I liked making the tiny birds from scrap.
Pink Pussy Hat.
This was the last stamp I carved in December and sparked a format that I've been using during the month of January for a daily pattern challenge (#letsmakepatterns). I also really like coloring in the stamp, it's very relaxing.
I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about Louise and Michell! I'll have lots more profiles of #CarveDecember participants over the next month or two. Also: If you participated in #CarveDecember and you'd like to be profiled, send me an e-mail and I'll send you a questionnaire!
Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you for sharing – I did participate this year and plan to do it again next year!! I used speedy cut and it was just ok – the one advantage it had was that I was able to use cookie cutters to cut them out – very easy.
