Flow Chart to Help You Choose a ScanNCut DX

These days I don't often post ScanNCut content on this blog.  I mostly share it in ScanNCut Club on YouTube.  But, there's one question that I get all the time and I figured it was time to answer it:

"Which ScanNCut should I get?"

If you've ever asked me this question, I've most likely told you that I don't do machine recommendations.  I don't do it because (1) there is no "best" ScanNCut, and (2) everybody's needs are different.

That said, I've finally figured out how to answer the question by offering guidance.  There are just four questions you need to answer:

  1. Do you love Disney?
  2. Do you have a Brother embroidery machine?
  3. Do you want to be able to scan 12×24?
  4. Is it important to have a lot of built-in designs available?
  5. Do you want a larger LCD screen?

And then follow this flow chart to help you decide on a ScanNCut DX machine that might work for you!

I put together a short video too:

As I mentioned in the video, while I am a paid ScanNCut Ambassador, I've been a ScanNCut user for a decade.  I use mine at least once a week to make all kinds of things.  Here's a brief history with one project for each year.

If you've got your eye on a ScanNCut, keep in mind that the perfect tool is a game-changer for any crafter. As Benjamin Franklin said, “The best investment is in the tools of one's own trade.”

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. On Wednesday, Gerry said this about my class "ScanNCut: Design and Cut Amazing Stencils"

"Just wanted to share that I'm very happy i took this class. I bought a ScanNCut DX 2 years ago and have barely used it because it just wasn't as easy to teach myself as i expected. I recently learned about this class from someone who recommended it in Helen Hiebert's Paper Year session about using cutting machines.

I actually don't use stencils much, but you do such a great job going over all the basics and then more advanced editing, and i can use that knowledge for any kind of project with the machine. I was able to do quite a bit with my hand drawn and cut paper stencil designs right on the machine itself, now i need to do some practice in the software.

i have to say this is really like 2 classes in one: how to use the scanNcut and how to design masks and stencils- and as a bonus, much of that applies to design principles in general.

thanks for such a great class!"

  • Yes, the ScanNCut truly is a wonderful machine. I certainly love mine. I learned so much from your videos, that I feel confident to tackle any project, especially knowing that the machine and canvas workspace allow for an almost endless variety of projects. I have made projects such as stencils, cards & paper crafts, rhinestones and vinyl, both iron on & adhesive. You are a terrific teacher, because you are thorough, as well as very personable, while displaying a contagious enthusiasm and broad range of ideas. Thank you for all you have done.

  • Curious why the SDX225 and 230 are missing? I love Disney but don’t have a Luminaire so purchsed SDX230DI on Amazon. I will be using it mostly for applque and quilt block fabric cutting. Great fit for me!
