  • Thank you so much Julie, I really enjoyed your review. I particularly enjoyed watching you demo the exercise and your landscape is fantastic. Please keep doing this book club, I am so guilty of having art books of the shelf and never looking at them. This partly because I am dyslexic, so lots of words I find I just give up on it and get bored. So good to know of a book with lots of demos. xx

  • Another great review, Julie. I love your takeaway to use the book in a way that works for you. I have books on technique but I think her approach might be helpful for me to have prompts to get out of my head and just play to see what happens.

  • Thank you Julie for this great review. I have been talking lessons with Adult Ed. and so appreciated many of the highlighted comments you gave us. Especially to chose good paper. I usually use 140 but times think to practice with a sketch book and i never liked those results. I will be looking into borrowing this book from the library. Thanks

  • I have lots of books that I put on the shelf and never actually read. I’m glad to know that I’m not alone!

  • Hi Julie,
I watched bookclub on the replay. I also took “Watercolor is for Everyone” by Kateri Ewing out of the library and because it was ‘la-la-froofy’, as you put it, I ended up skimming the the philosophical and just tried the exercises. I did find it fun and approachable and I learned (new to watercolor) a lot. I would recommend you say the author’s name at the start and again at the end of your review, just to give credit. Don’t worry about pronunciation- you’ll be given credit for trying!
Thanks so much- Looking forward to the next book!

  • Thanks for the good review, Julie. I have been fooling around with watercolor for years but never liked the results. First off, I will get some good watercolor paper! Then do as you have done and work through the exercises on smaller sketch sized pieces. Genius! Why didn’t I think of that? I think I need this book for my personal use.
    Thanks again
