Art Journal Every Day: 2020 June & July & a Bit of August

AJEDHeader2020

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, the concept is simple: It's a commitment to take ten minutes each day to do something in your art journal.  No need to finish anything or even like it.  It's about making the time to nourish your creativity every day!  If you have the time to flip through your phone, you have the time to Art Journal Every Day.  If you'd like to share what you make, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  You can find new Art Journal Every Day posts here on the blog most Fridays.  The archives go back to the first Art Journal Every Day post in 2010.

It has been a looooong time since I shared a peek into my art journal.  Be warned that there is some profanity on the last page, so skip this post if that offends you.

Motherhood and the pandemic are all wrapped up into a kind of confused jumble for me. Because I'm a first time mom, I can't really tell what is pandemic and what is motherhood.  So, either motherhood or the pandemic (or maybe both) killed a bit of my art journal rhythm.  I definitely arted in my art journal a lot less in 2020 than any year prior.  Here are a few pages from June and July and August of 2020:

There's lots of oil pastel in this face.  I don't fix the oil pastel and it hasn't been an issue in my books thus far.

I attempted to print my son's hand and this was one of the reject prints:

Still worth keeping, even though it didn't quite work out.

When I say I didn't get into my journal much, you can see June dates on the left side of this spread and July on the right.

But you know what?  Some journaling is still better than no journaling!  So yay me!  I don't think art has to be an all or nothing proposition.  We all do what we can.  Let's celebrate that!

Below is a leftover piece of vinyl shaped like a hand.  I used a white paint pen to write a note to myself.

This page features lots of fun hand lettering:

I really enjoy experimenting with different hand lettering styles in my art journal.

I've started to use quite a bit of colored pencil in my art journal, as you can see in this spread:

The mandala below as done on Yupo paper using Glaze and Souffle pens.  I glued it into my journal and added a bit of extra flair around the edges with some Moonlight pens.

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my art journal.  Thanks for stopping by!

  • I have never been able to do an art journal page a day, more like a couple every week or so. Everyday, I write in my coffee journal which, oh really, I take along to coffee shops where I read, talk to friends, and sketch what I see and think. Everyone needs an artistic rhythm, and, in retirement, that’s mine. Just keep arting!!
