AJEDHeader2020

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, the concept is simple: It's a commitment to take ten minutes each day to do something in your art journal.  No need to finish anything or even like it.  It's about making the time to nourish your creativity every day!  If you have the time to flip through your phone, you have the time to Art Journal Every Day.  If you'd like to share what you make, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.

I love to use tags for experimenting and exploring. They're hardy and they're small.  It's a perfect combination.  Stamping, watercolor, Pan Pastel, gelatin printing, mixed media, collage, product experiments — a tag is the perfect mini canvas in my opinion. Here are just a few of the tags I've shared over the years:

I share so many tags that people always ask me the same question: what do you do with all those tags?!  The answer is simple.  Most of the time, I put th
em in my art journal! Today I thought I'd share one of my favorite techniques for using tags in my art journal: creating page turn tabs.  Watch the video for the how-to:

If you're free on Friday night, join me for "Friday Night Art Journaling: Tags" where I'll share all of my favorite tag techniques!  You can also learn how to make a book from tags…

…in my class, "A Year of Gelatin Printing: Stamps & Texture Plates."

How do you like to use tags in your art journal?  I'd love to know!

  • Love your tag ideas! Interesting that I had not thought of the tag ending on the face side of the journal. Great tip!

  • I’m tempted to sign-up. Sometimes I’m so tired on Friday night, but maybe now that it is light out longer, I’ll have more energy. One question: I have lots of manila file folders (from office cleanouts), I’ll cut them into various size tags…. is the hole at the top of the tag necessary? I think unless, we are tying something through the hole, then it is not needed. Thanks!

  • I love tags – and yours are great and inspiring!
Unfortunately I’m not able to take this class, but I would have! If you offer it again (or if it is taped…?) I would be interested 🙂

  • Sherry,
i cut a lot of my own tags. i rarely add a hole. sometimes I do … to use “reinforcements” i have created. i don’t tie stuff through holes. i have made books with a ring through the holes; this is great for chunky pages.

  • I really like the look with your tags added onto the page. I stopped making tags because I was never quite sure what to do with them after they were done.

  • I understand. I’m tired too in the evenings, especially week nights as I still work a paying day job, and I’m now old and almost ‘official’ (on the Medicare). But, I find that my energy gets a jolt with art; especially with inspiration a la Julie.
